So LCG.

So 4 corporation "factions".

So 3 runner "classes".

Sounds pretty similar to all their other LCGs.

wow

But, who knows, might be good. Depends on how much they muck with the engine to add in these "factions". Off to look at the card pics...

Oh yes! This is great news indeed! Hopefully it will be compatible with the old cards (using opaque sleeves of course).

When this and Star Wars comes out, along with AGoT, I might as well just have my bank account transfer cash to them every month to save me the hassle.

All cards shown to us so far are just rewordings of classic Netrunner cards.

This part gives me hope, too:
This asymmetrical card game resurrects the mechanics of the original Netrunner, designed by Richard Garfield, and updates them to increase clarity and promote a more dynamic play environment.

Very excited to see how this turns out. The addition of factions seems like it will make it incompatible with the old cards, but I'm OK with that as the price to pay. New Netrunner > No Netrunner.

Edit: The announcement says 3rd quarter of 2012, I'm thinking there's a very good chance they will have copies of the core set at Gencon.

It works within the Android setting. Considering Garfield referred to it as the best board game he ever designed, the LCG format works better I think.

But... is Garfield involved at all in the development? I hope so even if it's only tangentially to peruse things.

Speculation: factions are just a way to define the pre-built decks in the base set.

I really didn't think this would happen and I'm completely stoked that it did.

I think that the "factions" they are referring to are just different playstyles of decks. Hopefully they will make it to where you can customize the game and share cards among the runners and corps.

I can't wait to pick this up - I'll likely buy multiple sets.

I was just talking with a friend about this. He thinks the factions are part of their effort to fit it in with the Android universe.

Personally, I think it will be easy enough to house-rule something and have old cards count as Neutrals or something if you want to include them so it won't be a big deal. I'm just excited this is even going to exist at all!

Ugh. Factioning is lazy lazy lazy CCG design. It is rarely done well, and usually serves only to limit deck archetypes.

And it does look like there will be some mechanical changes.

If he was involved, I feel certain they would have said so as it is only a positive from a PR standpoint. I suspect Richard Garfield will have nothing to do with the game.

edit: I'd feel a lot better if Eric Lang was lead designer on this thing.

So excited! I'm positive there will be a clearer rulebook too so I'll potentially have more people to play against.

Another plus is the excellent art and graphic design. Getting people to play netrunner before was a really hard sell.

Keep playing with them?

It's probably going to be at least a year before this is robust enough to compete with the original.

Edit:

What's REALLY interesting is that the game flat out says 2 player, but the core set has 250 cards in it. Which, if accurate, means that we'll get roughly 125 cards per side. Which also means that we might actually get deckbuilding opportunities in the core set, unlike most FFG LCGs.

Since they are doing factions, I think the will do something similar to the Lord of the Rings LCG and the Game of Thrones LCG.

Probably no deck-building, just different factions to choose from, at least with the intro box. Unfortunately...
