AUCTION NEWS: The opening bell has sounded for this year's auction as gamers take to their closets to see what they will part with in the annual flurry to register items for the WBC Auction and Auction Store. As the former is limited to 550 items and always sells out, it is not wise to procrastinate. You snooze, you lose. Once again, all items must be pre-registered for both the Auction and Auction Store. Unregistered items will not be accepted. Get the details at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc/auctionoverview.htm.

REGISTRATION PAGE OPENED: WBC's Pre-Registration page opened for business on May 15 at http://boardgamers.org/wbc/prereg.htm with the first 624 attendee commitments logged in. Use this page to check the status of your registration, troll for teammates, rides or roommates, or even Open Gaming matches or baby sitting gigs. Send your requests to ACD@boardgamers.org.

SCHEDULER UP & RUNNING: View the details of your favorite events and then plan your schedule using Steve Okonski's Personal Scheduler at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc/sviewer/ in an improved format. You can also find additional scheduling aids by Steve at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc/schedule.htm - for the ultimate in planning your week at WBC.

VENDORS ROOM SELLOUT: A record number of publishers have committed to WBC this summer, causing spillover from Ballroom A into the adjoining Ballroom Foyer. Check out the vendor links at the top of our home page. We are especially pleased to welcome Geek Chic whose elaborate, customized gaming tables will be on display and available for use. If you are looking to upgrade your gameroom, wait till you see what they have to offer.

ALLIANCE DEMOS & SAMPER SHOWCASE: We again welcome the sponsorship of Alliance Distributors who will be demonstrating a number of the latest game offerings the industry has to offer in the Showroom. They will be joined by Tom McCorry's crew of 'splainers demonstrating new game offerings on Tuesday during the Sampler Showcase. Scheduled offerings include: 1989, Manhattan Project, 1812: Invasion of Canada, Lancaster, Eclipse, Belfort, Ares Project and Glory to Rome. Tom needs more 'splainers so if you'd be willing to teach a game, let us know.

LIBRARY INVENTORY UPDATED: The WBC Game Library is in the process of soliciting donations for the 2012 season. The center piece of the Lancaster Showroom's 13,000 sq ft Open Gaming Dinner Theatre made over 1200 game loans during WBC Week in 2011 and an even bigger assortment of the newest games is expected in 2012. See the current inventory at http://boardgamers.org/wbc/library.htm.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE NIGHT: The popular steakhouse located directly across the street from the Host will again be hosting a fundraiser night to benefit the BPA Gaming Library on Tuesday, July 31st from 3 to 10:30 PM. So, if you're not an Auction follower, plan on eating early Tuesday with their $7.99 specials (before 5 PM) and enjoy your best meal of the week before the tournaments start again on Tuesday night. Check out the menu at http://www.texasroadhouse.com/restaurant-locations/pennsylva.... Submit the Texas Roadhouse ad from your program and 10% of your bill will benefit the upkeep of the Game library.

TWITTER UPDATES: Follow BPA on Twitter at https://twitter.com/BPA_WBC to get the latest information on events and logistics as we count down to the convention.

ELECTION TIME: It is once again time to elect three members to three-year terms on the BPA Board of Directors. Get all the information at http://boardgamers.org/election2012.htm. As usual, voting is effortless and takes only a moment thanks to the electronic ballot at http://boardgamers.org/forms/BoardBallot.shtml. Voting will remain open until July 15. All members (anyone attending WBC for more than one day is considered a member) are urged to vote since validation requires sufficient membership participation.

PBeM NEWS:

ADVANCED CIVILIZATION: Mads Lunau of Denmark topped reigning WBC champ Kevin Youells and a field of 31 in our first PBeM ACV Tournament by all of 16 points in a closely fought Final with four players vying for the lead at the start of the last round. The game was completed in four months. I've seen "live" games take longer! Greg Kulp led for much of the game with Iberia, but calamities and an invasion from Egypt conspired to keep him out of the top slot. Jon Anderson led the last two turns, but used all of his trade cards on the penultimate turn to purchase Theology, and was unable to make any purchase in the last round. Mads started the last turn in fourth place, but was holding half sets of Spice and Oil. This was enough to allow him to buy Theology and Philosophy for the win. Joe Lux and Neil McIver completed the laurelists. So, will Mads be able to repeat his victory at his first WBC this summer? More details and updated laurel totals are posted at http://boardgamers.org/yearbook12/acvpge.htm#pbem.

FOR THE PEOPLE: GM Don Chappell is doing his usual stellar job running the latest FTP tournament. After three swiss rounds, seven players remain unbeaten led by James Pei (big surprise) and his brother Nick, Michael Mitchell, Alberto Molina, the indomitable David Dockter, Doug Pratto and Gary Kirk. One more swiss round will be played to determine the eight who will pair off for single elimination. Could the Dockter be due for more Pei-induced angst? More details are available at http://www.angelfire.com/ny4/gmtom/FTPtournament.htm.

PRO GOLF: The second round of the tournament reaches its deadline on midnight May 17. The cut line is currently at 1 under par, and will be set at the score of the person who is 15th in the standings after the second round. All players tied with the player in 15th place will advance to the third and final round. In a building upset of potentially biblical proportions, Mark Yoshikawa has increased his lead to 6 strokes ahead of the field. As someone claimed was in their version of scripture: “When the whims of fortune fall to the favor of the luckless, then end of days are at hand." Revelations 4:16 The third round will be played on the Arrowhead Park course, which has some water, but will it be enough to slow down the Yoshikawa train? The combined score of the three rounds will be used to determine the Champion and other Laurelists. Any ties will be resolved using a 3-hole playoff on the 2002 Augusta National course. For details, see the event webpage at: http://www.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/pro_golf_PBeM_2012.html.

==============================

All BPA PBeM tournaments require current BPA membership when the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. Associate Calendar year memberships enabling play in all PBeM events starting in that year cost only $10. You need not keep your membership current in order to finish a PBeM event. Players may join the BPA throughout the year. See the BPA Terms page for details.

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved. See the requirements to host a BPA email tournament at http://www.abovethefields.com/top_pbem/
