Then God invented GPS...

1x Henamarth Riversong
3x Veteran Axehand
3x Bombur
3x Miner of the Iron Hills
3x Fast Hitch
3x Horn of Gondor
3x Legacy of Durin
3x Rivendell Blade
3x Ring Mail
3x Ancestral Knowledge
3x Feint
3x Hail of Stones
3x Lorien's Wealth

Player 2's deck

Eowyn, Frodo Baggins and Gloin. Initial threat of 25.

3x Arwen Undomiel

3x Unexpected Courage
3x A Test of Will
3x Hasty Stroke
3x Sneak Attack
3x Dwarven Tomb

3x Untroubled by Darkness

It may seem weird not to use Beravor in this one but I figure Legacy of Durin, Lorien's Wealth, Ancient Mathom et al will be enough to circumvent the Locate tests.

First player token to Player 1.

Player 1's starting hand : Erebor Hammersmith, Miner of the Iron Hills, Hail of Stones, Feint, Horn of Gondor and Ancestral Knowledge.

Player 2's starting hand : Arwen Undomiel x2, Eomund, Zigil Miner, Ever my Heart Rises and Stand and Fight.

*Mulligan*

Player 2's starting hand : Gandalf x2, Zigil Miner, Hasty Stroke, Dwarven Tomb and Stand and Fight.

2 bad hands for Player 2...

Setup :

Cave Torch is attached to Bilbo Baggins.

Discarded card from the encounter deck is Branching Paths (It is put into the staging area).

Round 1 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Legacy of Durin and Miner of the Iron Hills, Player 2 draws Zigil Miner.

Round 1 - Planning phase

Player 1 plays Legacy of Durin on Bifur and Horn of Gondor on Bilbo Baggins.

Round 1 - Quest phase

Player 1 commits Bifur and Bilbo Baggins.
Player 2 commits Eowyn and Frodo Baggins.

Encounter deck reveals Silent Caverns and Fatigue (Legolas and Gloin are exhausted), Fatigue surges into Twisting Passage.

Twisting Passage is probably the worst location in this deck.

Player 1 exhausts Cave Torch to put 3 progress tokens on Branching Paths (It is explored). Forced effect from Cave Torch discards Abandoned Mine (No effect). Forced effect of Branching Paths is resolved, revealed cards are Burning Low, Goblin Follower and Goblin Sneak. Goblin Sneak is put into the staging area.

Willpower of 9 to a threat of 8 = 1 progress token is put on the quest card.

Round 1 - Combat phase

Goblin Sneak attacks undefended, Shadow card is Zigil Mineshaft (No effect). Legolas is dealt 1 damage.

Round 1 - Refresh phase

Player 1's Threat = 26.
Player 2's Threat = 26.
First player token is passed to Player 2 (Yes I know this might be confusing).

Round 2 - Resource phase

Player 2 draws Untroubled by Darkness and Ever my Heart Rises, Player 1 draws Erebor Record Keeper.

Untroubled by Darkness is usually insane, even more so in this deck where I think all locations are underground.

Round 2 - Planning phase

Player 2 plays Ever my Heart Rises on Gloin.
Player 2 plays Zigil Miner and Dwarven Tomb, targeting Bofur.
Player 1 plays Erebor Record Keeper, drawing Bombur.
Player 1 plays Erebor Hammersmith, returning Unexpected Courage to Player 2's hand and drawing Horn of Gondor.

Round 2 - Quest phase

Player 2 commits Eowyn, Frodo Baggins and Gloin.

Discarding Stand and Fight to discard Goblin Warlord.
Discarding Unexpected Courage to discard Burning Low.
Discarding Gandalf to discard Zigil Mineshaft.
Discarding Untroubled by Darkness to discard Silent Caverns, passing the test.

Alright, I admit at some point, I was growing frustrated trying to dig for a Pass card. Player 2 now has an empty hand. At least I managed to get rid of Twisting Passage.

2 progress tokens are put on the quest card (3/13).

Bofur is returned to Player 2's hand, Bilbo Baggins gets 1 resource.

Player 2 discards Bofur to Eowyn's ability.

Willpower of 17 to a threat of 6 = 1 progress tokens is put on Abandoned Mine (It is explored) and 10 progress tokens are put on the quest card. Stage 1 is completed. Stage 2 is revealed, Player 1 makes a Locate Test :

Discarding Bombur to discard Dwarven Forge, passing the test.

I basically couldn't afford to have Player 2 try to pass that Locate test, that's why I went big on questing trying to finish stage 1 that turn.

Bofur is returned to Player 2's hand, Bilbo Baggins gets 1 resource.

Round 3 - Travel phase

Travel to Silent Caverns, Gloin is readied and Player 1's threat is reduced to 25.

Bofur is returned to Player 2's hand, Bilbo Baggins gets 1 resource.

Player 2's threat = 26.
First player token is passed to Player 1.

Round 5 - Resource phase

Player 1 draws Miner of the Iron Hills and Lorien's Wealth, Player 2 draws A Test of Will.

AToW is a nice little insurance against a potential nasty Locate test.

Round 5 - Planning phase

Player 1 plays Gandalf, dealing 4 damage to Goblin Sneak, killing it.
Player 2 plays Steward of Gondor on Eowyn.
Player 2 activates Steward of Gondor.
Player 2 plays Eomund.

Player 2 commits Eowyn, Frodo Baggins, Gloin, Zigil Miner, Eomund and Arwen Undomiel (Targeting Miner of the Iron Hills).

Pretty much all in.

Encounter deck reveals Cave Spider (Player 1 draws Fast Hitch then discards Fast Hitch, Ancestral Knowledge, Lorien's Wealth and Miner of the Iron Hills) and Branching Paths.

Player 2 puts Bofur into play questing.

Willpower of 26 to a threat of 6 = 1 progress token is put on Branching Paths (It is explored, revealed cards are Abandoned Mine x2 and Dwarven Forge, Abandoned Mine is put into the staging area) and 19 progress tokens are put on the quest card - GAME OVER!

Final score

Player 1's threat = 29 + 1 wound = 30.
Player 2's threat = 26 + 0 wound = 26.
4 complete rounds = 40.

96

I wouldn't say this scenario is easy, but I wouldn't say it's a DL7 either. I'd take this one over Escape from Dol Guldur any day for instance. A few nasty combinations can cripple you in the early game but once you get some questing going, it's fairly easy.

Once again, thank you. Twisting Passage is so nasty that I won't travel to it, I just accept the increased threat in the staging area.

I rate this quest as the second joke DL7, along with Carrock. My non-quest-specific decks whipped this "DL7" 10-0, even failing the locate test on 2B several times. Only in the last game was there ever a moment when things were tense, it was just cakewalking most of the time.

I play to win, but want to feel like I earned my win, had to work for it. This quest doesn't give me that feeling at all.
