Our first game we messed up multiple rules, and also decided to skip the injuries due to confusion. Thankfully the game was still very enjoyable. Here's where we made mistakes... and a few questions to go along.

1) We excluded the injured players because of confusion regarding how to implement the simultaneous bidding mechanic. Do you put coins under your hand and then reveal? (But, what if you need smaller change?) Do you write down your bids and then reveal? (Seems silly requiring to have paper chits for everyone's bids.) Do you shoot out fingers simultaneously to reveal your bid? What's your method? And do you find that the Injury mechanic adds value to the game and it's strategy?

2) Market refill. We just kept refilling the market to the maximum for the number of players for our size of game (6 player tiles for 4 teams). Now that I re-read the rules, I understand what they explained regarding checking the players income value and stopping at a value cap if that comes before the player tile limit. This rule will be easy to include next time, and I think will be good to have in play.

3) The Specialists. We just kept returning all specialists to the market when the season bar was shifted down, and then when selecting specialists we would continue with the method for the first season (selecting a tile in reverse order of the season's results). I'll be sure to play the correct rules next time... makes sense to keep your specialist unless his services are bought out by another team (or you select a new specialist). I think our drafting mechanic worked just fine, but I think the correct way could work better.

4) Bribe the Ref. I didn't read this at all the first time. We had the ref as not only the 1 point for team strength, but was also an automatic tie-breaker for the player who held his services. I'd be interested in trying the 'bribe biding' mechanic... but goes back to my first question regarding which simultaneous bidding method to use. If we can't find a bidding method we like, we might just continue our method (and play without injuries).

5) Basko at end game: 5 Basko to 1 Point. We played it fine, this is just more of a comment/concern. Does anyone else think that this ratio is too low? We discussed that possibly the money in hand at end game should have a higher value... like maybe 3 to 1.

Hopefully get to play this again soon... will post a full comment/review and give my geek score rating then.

Yes, taking change beforehand as needed. Why wouldn't you?

Sure, it's part of the game. It would never have occurred to me to remove the injuries.

I'd recommend spending more money at auctions. The game's not about making money, it's about getting the best team.
