In walking through a game with a couple of other players, we seem to have found a dead zone in the rules that sparked an interesting discussion.

The question was this: After engaging in ranged combat, do the weapon cards used in that combat go back into your hand, or are they discarded and replaced with new cards from the stock pile?

My argument was that of course that was the case, otherwise there would be no need for such a large stock deck. Plus, that would be reflective of the use of energy weapons, which require no ammunition.

Someone else argued that only the AMS cards specified that they were to be discarded when used, along with the weapon system card they defeated. They further argued that this system would be most reflective of mission specific loadouts and limited onboard ammo supplies. You run out of ammo, you are then reduced to engaging in close combat only.

Thoughts? Opinions?

The statement that you discard both Weapon System Cards is under Line-of-Sight Fire Attack, not under Anti-Missile Missile. If it were meant to apply only to AMM, the opposite would be true. The rule isn't well written, but the intent is clear.

My 20cents:

All Weapon System cards are discarded after use. You do not automatically draw new a weapon system card after that.

There are only 4 ways to gain new Weapon System cards after the game begins.
1. Roll "Weapon System" face on the activation die.
2. Roll "Command" face on the activation die and use it to draw the Weapon System card.
3. Have a draw result during battle resolution.
4. Draw special cards such as System Reboot, or Command Jolt, where the card text specifically asks you to draw Weapon System cards.

This is correct, you never replace weapon system cards when used. This is another tactic you need to be aware of when playing. Keeping a good hand of Weapon System cards is vital to your success.
