I played the Mayfair 4th edition of this game last night. The rules state that the Union player should have a starting "max army" of 34. This is determined by the numbers on the yellow boxes in the union territories. I counted up the union boxes several times and had another person count them as well. Each time we counted we only cam up with 33. Is this number supposed to be 34 and the board is misprinted, or is the number on the track and the rule book a misprint? Or am I just blind and missed the last box? Thanks.

Very good question, especially since the upper part of Missouri is left from the game in the Mayfair edition.

I don't own the game, but hope this is not be true.

Does this mean another sticker action like with the Phalanx edition! We'll see.

New York: the 4-point port city in the Phalanx 3rd edition is now a 3-point port city in the new Mayfair 4th edition...

I hope Mayfair will come up with a sticker fix!

That could be it, because there were no 4pt cities in the Mayfair Version.

Well, since NYC was such a thorn in the side of the Lincoln Adminstration (some radicals wanted NYC to secede from the Union!), perhaps the NYC 3 point rating is more historically accurate? Either way, I plan on buying this classic masterpiece.

see pg 19 in the optional rules section where 'recruiting limitations' are discussed... check the last paragraph that begins with the word 'IMPORTANT' and you will see that it mentions cities with recruiting values of '3 OR MORE', specifically citing Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia, and Richmond (which all have a value of 3) but SCRANTON is not mentioned... perhaps Scranton was meant to have a value 4, which would then correlate with the 34 on the army size track and the '3 or more' statement...

PS... I use the Army Tracker to additionally A) track the actual units on the map using blue/grey flag markers as they are lost/gained, and B) track remaining marches using blue/grey leader counters

Anyone figure out if the game is correct or needs a fix? I want to buy this game, but have been hesitant until this is sorted out.

I have asked this very question to the rulesguru at Mayfair.

I'll report back with any response I receive.

No reply to my question, so I resent again to their "gaming guru". Here's the text:

Quote:
Hi:

I just received A House Divided. More than 20 years ago I owned and enjoyed the GDW version.

I noticed a discrepancy between that earlier version and this newest one.

Union army Maximum is 34, but there are only 33 points in Union cities.

I remember that in the GDW version, New York City had a value of 4, now it has only a value of 3.

Is this a misprint on the board or intentional?

Do you have a PDF of collected errata available for this game yet?

Thanks for your time.

Best wishes,

TT

Anything further on this? Any other issues that people have come across with the new printing?
