(Bernard, Gordon, KenT, CharlesP, JohnH) : French lion-racing game with nice artwork
Rick: "It's reviewed at http://www.gamereport.com/tgr5/favoriten.html
CharlesP: "The game involves players betting on a race of five colored horses. On each player's turn, everyone is given the opportunity to place a bet (a marker denoting the player) on one of the horses. Only three bets are available to each player for the game. Subsequent bets made on a particular horse are placed below the previous ones. Then the player who's turn it is rolls the die and selects one of the horses to move that many spaces. The die is rolled again and a second horse is chosen to move, and so on, until all five horses have moved to end the turn. As each horse crosses the finish line, they are placed in the winners boxes (1st through 3rd place), and their associated bets are placed into the scoring area. The first bet placed on the first place horse scores 32 points, the second bet on that horse gets 22 points, and so on, while the first bet on the second place horse scores 24 points, the second bet on the second place horse is worth 17 points, etc. For these very simple rules, there's a lot of interest in choosing when and where to make bets and which horses to move early in the die rolls. Do you move up a leading horse you're rooting for with that early 4 or 5, or wait and hope for a six later? The games takes about 20 minutes; we starting our 4th straight game when we were kicked out of Neutral Ground. Bernard won the combined three-game total by seven points over me."
