I know it does not directly apply, but in the initial edition score was kept on a scoretrack (and therefore open).

In the Foxmind edition, the score tokens are printed on both sides. I always take this to mean scoring is public. If scoring was hidden, the score tokens would be single sided with a common back, making it easy to hide there value.

The score isn't really hidden anyway. A player could sit there and determine another player's score by adding up all the train stations that they connect to and doing the math that way. But let's save them the time and just let them see the scoring chips!

Personal note: I avoid using the scoring chips and just keep the score on a piece of paper. I wish they would have included some '2' and '3' point chips!
