I've read all the HH books though and have enjoyed most of them. I'm not sure they're a great "beginners" intro. Without some grasp of the milieu the real shocking reveals of the novel series will lose all their impact.

There are some truly excellent authors writing these novels - even if the whole series has perhaps gone on too long. I first read Dan Abnett in this series, and followed him to his one-off books like Triumff and Embedded. I wasn't disappointed with either.

Thumb for Dan Abnett. The Eisenhorn and Ravenor books, though not HH-related, are two particularly wonderful sets of books.
