There I was entering the freight exchange on the planet Estray. You see, I'd finally broken down and taken out a loan to purchase my own ship & crew. I had 6 months to make my first payment or I'd lose my ship.

This planet was bad news. Most arguments were settled at the end of a blaster. The only time the law got involved was when they stood to make a profit. Not a great place to be, but here I was. At the exchange, I only managed to find one merchant willing to trust me with his goods after about 3 days. I kept going back though and making contacts. By the end of the week, I managed to convince an Altenean broker that I could get his shipment of precious metals to Isen fast. We closed the deal and I loaded up the cargo. I was getting ready to jump off this planet but my crew had been bored and decided to party it up with a few of the local girls. Turns out one of these girls was a cop and it cost me 2 creds to bail the crewman. Fortunately for him, he managed to find me five passengers looking to get to Isen.

Isen is a little over 100 parsecs from Estray and it took us about 3 weeks to get there. The trip was mostly uneventful. The crew and I spent most of our time getting to know the ship.

Once at Isen, I unloaded the cargo and got paid 266 creds for my first delivery. I also sold some Alduvian wine I picked up in Estray for 2 creds. I actually sold it at a loss, 'cause it was a bad vintage. The next few days, the port workers were on strike so the freight exchange was closed. I got my ship refueled and waited around for the exchange to re-open. I was quickly hired to transport some tools to Dolch. The pay wasn't great, but I was looking to get out of this sector and get back to the core, even the outer core. On my last day I picked up some shiny gems for about 6 creds at the open air markets. If I remember right, these are very popular in Dolch. I also found 5 people willing to pay for passage to Dolch and charged them 2 creds each.

The ship was seized by the authorities on some trumped up charges and it cost me 10 creds and to get it released. Once I took care of that, we jumped back into space. The jump into deep space can be tricky and we took some engine damage. We made the 75 parsec trip in two and a half weeks port to port.

Immediately after landing, I delivered the cargo and got paid 185 creds. I also sold the shiny gems for about 30 creds making a decent little profit on them. That night the crew got in trouble again partying and it cost me 3 creds to bail them out. Dolch is a reasonable planet and I was able to quickly get some decent cargo at the freight exchange. I was hired to delivery some advanced vehicles to Estray. I was told these were mining equipment but the guns on it made me doubtful. Unfortunately, it was only half a load. Still, the pay would be decent. After loading the cargo and refueling, we were ready to go. Dolch is known for it's repairs and I picked up a few extra parts for 8 creds with plans to sell the at Estray.

We suffered more engine damage when the FTL drives kicked in and we could barely get any speed. We ended up drifting for a few days to do some repairs and finally got on our way again. Good thing we had spare parts. In all, it took us 5 weeks to travel 180 parsecs.

We arrived in Estray but couldn't unload for days because of worker strikes. I sold the extra parts I picked up and made 16 creds profit on them. We finally unloaded the cargo, and I got paid 503 creds! Next week at the freight exchange, I found a merchant looking to ship some crystals & gems to Veln'an. I'd never been into Hovahlen space. Estray was surprisingly close so I decided to make the quick trip.

We took off without incident. We made it to Valn'an space in 1 week. It was only 30 parsecs away. Unfortunately, due to the amount of traffic there, we couldn't land for a whole week. Once we finally got there though, everything went smooth. I sold the cargo for 244. A decent price for such a short trip. I spent a week at the freight exchange and managed to get a great job. I was hired to ship some advanced electronics to Magnes. I spent over a week site seeing waiting for gas prices to drop and eventually I was refueled and ready to go.

The 3 and a half week trip to Magnes felt like it took forever. I couldn't wait to get there with this cargo. It was a distance of 135 parsecs so the freight would pay great once delivered. To make matters worse, once I arrived to Magnes space, I got stuck outside the atmosphere for a few days while waiting for a dock to free up.

Finally, we landed. I found some fast dock workers and unloaded the equipment and in no time I was receiving my 615 credits. My first payment was due and I was well ahead in the game. I was worth 1157 creds. In only 6 months I'd doubled my money. Life was good.

Edit: Fixed some typos.
