Hey guys, great work on these wonders! Visually they are very fitting for the game as a whole, and there's definitely something for everyone in here. One quick question though:

Would you consider sharing the .psd files you used to create these wonders? Or if you already have, could you point me in the direction of them? I think it'd be great if users could tweak the versions you've provided to their tastes.

Either way - Thanks again for all the hard work. Much appreciated.

Thank you for the nice compliments !

Hmmm... I don't know about sharing those .psd files. I really think (even if some here may think the contrary) that my wonders doesn't need to be changed anymore. These are playable and I like them that way. Plus, it would confuse people if they were 10 versions of the same wonders...

I can only encourage to create your own wonders. And if you really feel you could use a power from a X wonder and merge it with a power from an Y wonder, just steal those ideas from our wonders to create your own stuff, I wouldn't mind at all ! On the contrary I would be glad to see some new stuff here !

I just hope this answer doesn't decieve you too much... soblue

I have to agree with Shima - we put alot of work into creating and playtesting these for balance. I wouldn't feel right having versions floating around out there. Not to mention, I dont have any PSD files to share.

Totally understandable. I just thought since this is a fan expansion, you could truly share it with the fans. It's not as though it's killing your profit margin or anything

Also, I'm not questioning balance of the wonders, just playstyle. For example: I think El Dorado is a great idea for a wonder with a similar mechanic that you guys use. However, I would never even dream of playing it due to the base mechanic of the wonder in the upper left corner. Too maintenancy for my blood. I think you guys fell into this area with a few other wonders - Beiping, Brigadoon, Nomads for example. Neat ideas overall, but the execution doesn't really mesh with why 7 Wonders is great. It's fast-paced and relatively easy to keep track of.

Other wonders just screw over the player's neighbor without offsetting the difference: ie - Chichen Itza, Capua, Nomads, Persepolis, and Sparta (doubly). Small changes would fix this issue while still keeping the spirit of each wonder.

Don't get me wrong, there's 27 wonders here... even with these issues I'll personally still get a lot of mileage out of what you've worked hard to create - and for that I thank you both again. Just figured it was worth asking as I do think there's significant room for improvement on some of these.

Ian,

I am a bit frustrated that these gorgeous boards were only released as 150dpi PDFs. Frankly, they look pretty fuzzy when they're printed. I've been working on making a template in Illustrator so I can recreate them all as vector/300dpi files. Here is a link to a PDF of Chichen Itza I made: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14219449/Chichen%20Itza%20HD.pdf

If you are interested in the AI file, PM me.

My husband and I printed out a few of the boards but haven't bothered assembling them for the same reason. The quality is ok on video but as we saw it's not the best for printing.
The guy in charge of graphics here (aka Mr Husband) had been toying with the idea of recreating the boards in Illustrator too, seems like you beat him to it! (I think he's secretly very happy about this)

So it would be nice to have access to your AI file!

Also, if the original creators of the expansion see this, would it be possible to upload higher resolution files for better printing?

Thanks!

I tried to upload the wonders in high res on the image section of the expansion. Some passed but BGG refused a lot of them. I'll try to find a solution with Dropbox this afternoon.

Here, try this, I hope it works... (about 25Mo each) :

I don't have the files for El Dorado and R'Lyeh.. Perhaps Falantrius could do the same thing I did..?
So, is it better ?

How are you vectorizing the images to increase resolution? My knowledge of AI is quite limited.

One way to do it is to import/scan one of the wonders on AI and then recreate the vector path like if you are using tracing paper. Once you have your template you can use it in any way you want. It is time consuming, but it will be very precise and you will have all the components as you want them to be.
Another way would be to use "Live Trace" tool in Illustrator, but it will needs some tweaks (more than one sometimes) to have a precise path.

Hope this helps!

Don't forget that we provided links to all the graphics in the Credits file. You can download the original art files without or graphics imbedded on top.

I recreated the "Aztec" style borders for the card slots by creating a custom brush and using it as a stroke - all the game components are simple hi-res scans of the actual board components that have been masked and saved as linked Photoshop files. Obviously the text has been created from scratch, and keeping it as a text object keeps the quality at the highest possible level.

This is my AI version, though this particular file will be hard to work with: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14219449/Chichen%20Itza%20A%20%28no...

My actual working file is linked to lots of PSDs of all the individual game components. It makes it really easy to update all the boards if I find an error in one of the images - I just update it in Photoshop and it is auto-populated throughout all my files.

So the short answer is, I am not vectorizing the game images, but I am using 600 dpi scans (downscaled to 300 dpi), and I am vectorizing the text and some of the pieces of the board that are easy to do.

I created print-resolution assets for wonders of my own as well. Here is a zip with a PSD-file with all the components. The folder structure might look a bit insane when you start off but it works just fine.

Let me know if you need any explanations/help with it.

Works great, the file has everything we need to start making our own wonder, you only have to make some layers visible and others invisible. nice work man! can you upload the Fonts too? my photoshop is warning me that the fonts are missing.

how about sharing a .psd file with just the symbols used for all of the wonders? That would save some of us a bunch of time if we wanted to create our own wonders.
Great job on these!!
