I just played my first dogfight with 2 DH.2s vs. 2 Halb D.3 and I had a blast!

I played with all rules (advanced + optional) and the dangerous skies above France came alive.
The basics in this game are simple, as were the original machines and tactics but after a few turns you start to seriously analyze your options and are hard pressed to not make a mistake.
These crates do not have armor plating or self-sealing fuel tanks and parachutes were a no-go (at least for the RFC).

The models for this game are simply the best models for a miniatures game I ever had. When not playing, you can put them on display.
This is what usually attracts one to this game.

But this visual factor must be accompanied by a solid set of rules and I can assure you, Wings of Glory delivers!
Everything is there, from dogfighting to recon missions and bombing and more.
My only concern initially was the absence of "energy state" rules(height advantage + speed advantage) but then I realized that it was included in "aim bonus" rules for higher aircraft and for diving machines.
There you go.

So, we have beautiful miniatures combined with a great set of rules and, last but not least, we have a designer who really supports his game whenever a question arises.

As an added bonus, there are lots of solitaire scenarios for those gamers who have to play alone most of the time.

So, if a player is interested in WW1 air combat, this game is a sure bet!

Welcome to the club.

In my opinion, it all gets even more interesting when you add in the 2-seaters and have escort/intercept missions.

The big bombers land additional interest (and visual drama!)

While I would never recommend the average gamer START using all the advanced/optional rules, I'm glad it worked for you.

It just gets better with more planes and more players!

One thing that has always impressed me about the game, aside from the fantastic miniatures and game mechanics, is how active Andrea is as a game designer. He is constantly engaging his fans, offering advice, listening to feedback, and providing new insight into the game and the history surrounding the setting.

I agree that two sweaters add a nice bit of flair to the game, and they provide new scenario options for bombing and reconnaissance missions. Don't forget to check out the downloadable scenarios from Ares Games' website.

Thanks for mentioning about the solo.

I am looking at getting into this game and am probably the most 'into' WWI so I may be playing alone quite a bit (until I can curse my friends into a new game). Can you tell me what models I would need to have a good time with a few solo scenarios? (ex. 1 bomber and 3 planes from each side, OR 2 planes from each side and not bombers etc.)

Be detailed, if you don't mind as I am very excited about this game and can't wait to get the duel packs! I am a huge fan of Frank Luke, the balloon buster.

Thanks for the input and I am glad to hear that the advanced rules make the game more fun instead of more tedious (I'm looking at you Warhammer 40k).
