Hi folks

Heading over to Welly for a couple of nights to do a bit of shopping and see The Hobbit - I believe there are no decent games stores in the city anymore which is very sad, but any other recommendations I should check out, say for a comic/ pop culture store or something like that? Or even good cafes, restaurants ...

Cheers, Peter

Yep, it's called Graphic. There's also PulsarMax not too far away in Manners Mall. Toyworld down the other end of the CBD has increased it's selection of board games, but it's still not a gamers shop.

If you're interested in LotR a trip to the Weta Cave in Miramar (with optional tour of the workshop) is good. There's also the Game Masters (computer gaming) exhibition on at Te Papa at the moment if you're into that.

As far as I'm aware there's still a game store down in the Old Bank Arcade.

It's on until the end of April. Hoping to get down there before then!

I'd definitely be going to the Te Papa exhibit if I was in town.

The exhibit is awesome - allow plenty of time! There are soooo many playable games (over 100 I think) we didn't get even close to trying all the ones we wanted to. Planning to go back cool

There is also 'The Hobby Stop", a new hobby/game shop at 34 Rongotai Rd in the Kilbirnie Shopping Centre.
I haven't visited it yet though, so can't vouch for what it may or may not sell.
Here is its Facebook page:

Many thanks for the tips everyone, we had an excellent couple of days in Welly, though the weather was, predictably, utterly crap!

Saw the Grordbort's exhibition, the Te Papa games exhibition, checked out the comic store in Cuba St and of course, saw The Hobbit in the best place in the world to see it, the Embassy.

Hi Peter,
Just to let you know next time you're down in Wellington (or anyone else looking to buy some awesome boardgames), Toyworld is picking up the slack in Boardgame Retail.
We have increased our stocks at the Lower Hutt and Wellington Megastore so feel free to contact Toyworld Lower Hutt on 04 560 4717 or Wellington Mega Store 04 473 0226 if you have any questions or requests.
We are also happy to courier games out to you if you're happy to pay the shipping.
