July 5th Miramar -Be There!

This game features on quite a few lists, which shows some interest for what appears a light kids' game.

Well, it mostly is a light kids' game. But Montgolfiere is also a good break game for cynical old gamers, or as a quick filler or beer 'n' pretzels game (perhaps champagne and canapes are more appropriate for ballooning).

You can win games by randomly playing the cards in your hand - we've played plenty of 2-player games with the NPC Black Baron, who has won about 15% of games playing entirely randomly. That's part of the charm, and you have to be prepared to play a game where your best possible card play may be completely ruined. We found it best to play positively, rather than playing the defensive option. You always remember when the Winds are played on you just one space from the finish.

The physical components are solid, attractive and long lasting, and this game was cheap even over here in New Zealand. So it's quick, attractive and fun. What more do you want? I'm looking forward to teaching this to young friends and family as they get old enough.

This is a great kid's game. My five year old loves it. He especially likes acting out being hit by sleeping gas. Thumbs up!
