Flipsiders were audio cassette-shaped flip-out magnetic board games introduced by Milton Bradley in 1987 (design/patent by Anjar). The initial 1987 release, including their product ID #s consisted of these 6 games:

4821 Checkered Flag
4822 Rock Tour
4823 Chopper Chase
4824 Mall Madness
4825 Dragon Master
4826 Scavenger’s Gold

I had Rock Tour and Mall Madness - very fun, if only in brief bursts. Each listed the other 5 on the back of its original bubble card packaging. These seem to have been followed by at least an additional 12 in 1988, though my info here, and online is limited. It also seems that the later tapes all went by a 4827-xx designation, probably to avoid collision with existing IDs. I have seen 2 of these:

4827-11 Ghostly Estates
4827-12 Rocket Race

This, and Anjar's claim that "over 20" were made had me believe that there were at least 10 missing from 4827-1 through 4827-10, inclusive. I found someone with "Tank Battle," one of the perhaps more elusive Flipsiders, and it was confirmed to me to be 1988, with ID# 4827-7. This confirms my suspicions that there are at least 6 more out there I don't know of. I believe the other 3 of the supposedly remaining 10 for which I have no numbers are the ones listed here on BGG, in the instructions section of MB's site, and through a few I've seen IRL:

(4827-xx?) Prom Date
(4827-xx?) Slumber Party
(4827-xx?) Danger Dive

If the Flipsiders line stopped at Rocket Race, this means there are 7 for which no information exists online, or at least not that I've been able to track down in about a month of searching. Help me BGG, you're my only hope. I've sent letters to Anjar, MB, and Hasbro, and have yet to hear back from any. I've tracked down the *inventor* of Flipsiders and written a friendly query - no reply. I've scoured Google, Yahoo!, hotbot, Lycos, BGG, and old toy stores. I've read every message in the Yahoo group - nothing, though a few have asked. It makes me wonder if these missing 6 contain government secrets, or Nazi propaganda. What am I not supposed to know? What force of nature is keeping this info from me? :)

I need some closure. Does anyone know the names of any of these? Can any of the few in here who have the 3 listed above for which I don't have ID numbers/years/photos (Prom Date, Slumber Party, Danger Dive) provide me with any of these things? I'm guessing they're each 1988, and of the 4827-xx designation, but it would be nice to see them fit into the list, and cross a few more details off my treasure hunt.

If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading.

(4827-9) Prom Date
(4827-10) Slumber Party
(4827-8) Danger Dive

I had a friend who was fond of the Flipsiders series so when they were discounted after being discountinued I wound up collecting them. When I catalogued my collection I was surprised to notice that the series was released by two different publishers. The ones with the 1988 copyright were released by Milton Bradley. The ones with a 1993 copyright were released by Diversified Specialists, Inc. (who?)

The newer games are:
Caterpillar Causeway (#144172)
River Run (#144185)
Prized Pony (#144186)
Alien Assault (#144200)
Gold Fever (#144178)
Road Rally (#144178)

There is a sticker on the back of these games that says "Distributed by West Coast Liquidators, Inc. Domiguez, CA 90220." This leads me to believe that the games were just dumped on the market and sold below cost.

BTW, if you happen to have a photocopy of the rules for Dragon Master I would like to buy them from you.

Wow, a real and great response! Thanks for helping me out with all this great info. I had been thinking that there would be 4827 IDs from 1 through 10, but your info seems to suggest that maybe they started at 4827-7 (Tank Battle), continuing from the original lot's 4826 (Scavenger's Gold). Does that sound right?

Would you be willing/able to photograph and/or scan the 6 newer tapes? I'm quite sure now that there is no other source of info for these online. "Caterpillar Causeway" yields nothing online, and the rest are just too-common word pairs. I could even chip in a little for such infos if you're interested, especially easy if you have Paypal. For the old set, I just need the 3 you've listed, and I have a full collection.

As far as instructions for Dragon Master, if PDFs are good enough for you, you're welcome to any and all of these, scanned from a mint condition DM last night:

http://www.garyfixler.com/Flipsiders/DragonMaster/instructio...

I'd also like to get some pictures up here at BGG for Rocket Race, as there don't seem to be any. I didn't get to see what that one looked like until I stumbled upon a real one and bought it.

I wish I could give you a tip, but I have 0 geek gold. Hopefully the DM instructions will act as some composition for your help. If you still need a physical photocopy for some reason, let me know, and I'll see what I can do, but if you have a decent printer, one of the PDFs should work for you. Thanks again.

Thank you for the scan of the rules for Dragon Master.

I regret I can not reciprocate because I don't have the equipment to send pictures of the games.

For more information about the Flipsiders series why don't you try this company? http://www.anjar.com/products/flipsiders.htm

The rules for the original Flipsiders are available at the MB web site:
http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=cs_instructions&lette...

They show ten flipsiders in total.

Yes, I wrote to Anjar back either just before or just after the new year, politely requesting a list of the Flipsiders, but have never heard back. I also wrote to Hasbro, through a link from their instructions area that claimed to be a sort of help desk, but they replied that as Flipsiders have been off the market for a long time, they had no info on them, and my best bet was the secondary market (i.e. Ebay). Alas. It was good to hear something back at least.

Thanks again.

Yes, I found those with a Google search. They're what lead me here - or rather, a link in here to them is what helped me find BGG via Google. Thanks!

Hello. I was wondering if it would be at all possible to obtain one of these games? I really don't care which one. I remember having checkered flag, mall madness, and the orange dungeon game as a kid. I think my lil brother would really get a kick out of one. Thanks in advance for any info. Please email me at dyvurcz40@hotmail.com :D

To the best of my knowledge, all of the Flipsiders series games are now in the BGG database.

Hasbro's instructions archive maintains Flipsiders instructions.

Also, there's a Flipsiders wiki page on BGG. robot

Hah! I just stumbled across my very own relic! I found a flipsiders tape in my desk drawer. Low and behold, its Tank Battle! Don't know what thats actually worth (but I'd be curious to know). Either way, I think I'm holding onto it for now. I even have all 4 magnet pieces in tact and stored in the top slot. :) Now to learn how to play it... 4827-7 is what it says near the patent, and it is indeed 1988 Milton Bradley. Sweet.

Wow, those are a blast from the past. The last I had heard of those was playing games at recess in 2nd grade. I used to have 3-4 of them.
