Ca$h 'n Gun$ » General » An Elegant Redesign for a More Civilized Age

Author: Typpo
WARNING: This redesign has nothing to do with Star Wars

Ca$h 'n Gun$ doesn't strictly need a redesign as the art it has is pretty evocative of the silly Bank Heist gone wrong that the game captures. However I got Ca$h 'n Gun$ as a shorter, more fun, more foam gun filled replacement for BANG! so I imagined it as a western. I've been slowly working on redesigning Ca$h 'n Gun$ as a poker game gone wrong; with revolvers, poker chips, cards, and a lot of Clint Eastwood references. Here's what I've got so far.

First off, I redesigned the original super powers and promo cards. The art aside the biggest improvement is actually having the power written on the card instead of tucked away in the rulebook. No more passing the rulebook around to every new player at the table each game! The wording is shifted around a little bit, but is mostly the same. One big difference is that there are no character stand ups in this redesign. Instead you keep track of who has been shot by who's holding a gun. If you get shot or drop out you drop your gun and no longer can get a cut of the pot.

I also made a few more super power cards. I've tested all of them, and they all work pretty well. They're all supposed to give you more choices and/or force your opponents to play a little differently to compensate. Mostly. A few need to be adjusted or rewritten for clarity. Play at your own risk.

The weird ones with the black set up boxes in the corner are a convoluted way of doing the cop in the mafia variant. It's a bit much, and it might be easier to just do it the normal way instead. Despite that, I think the game is more fun with more super power cards and the strange interactions between them.

Besides the ammo cards the rest is just pieces. I bought a Poker Case that conveniently came with poker chips. The glass wounds and plastic cap guns came from my local dollar store. Overall a pretty cheap investment.

I still need to format the Ammo Cards to post them on the good ol' geek, and hopefully I'll be able to post the files for printing, but until then this is it. I hope you enjoyed it.

I finished all the ammo cards. With all of these ammo cards the game is playable to 7. If you get bored of Ca$h 'n Gun$ you can also just use the cards as traditional deck of cards.

2-9 and the Ace of Spades are "Click, Click, Click" cards
10s, Jacks, Queens and Jokers are "Bang" cards
Kings and other Aces are "Bang, Bang, Bang" cards.

Except that there may or may not be an extra ace or two in the deck. Don't look at me, I didn't put them there. In fact, it's odd you think that I did, you're clearly trying to draw attention away from yourself, cheater. I have no choice but to draw my gun on you, because unlike some people in this thread, I don't take cheating sitting down.

This looks amazing! I think I like this better than the original design. Maybe I'll just replace them with this.

Very nice looking redesign! Just went to the top of my PnP list.

The Law/Snitch is a little confusing. Can you give an example? What gets passed around during setup? If there are 6 players do you distribute the snitch plus 5 other trump cards? Does the snitch keep the snitch card AND draw another super power? Won't the other players notice he has 2 cards? And during Phase 6, does the snitch just quietly reach out and remove one of the wound tokens?

I don't have "official" answers - but if you click on the picture of all the roles the OP does give some more detail about the Snitch rules in the description there.

Anyway this could be uploaded to Artscow? I think I'd finally make my first order from them.

any reason you didn't use the card back images from the redesign?

It's the card back I use for all of my Artscow cards.

That way, I don't have Forbidden Island layout cards with a Cash 'n Guns back, for example...

I will look into replacing the design with the official card back (and taking out the non CnG cards).

Here's my version of this print. I went a little bit further and took suggestions for pieces from the forums.

So I ended up using a 300 Piece Poker set to give me a bit more space. I have a ton of extra poker pieces now, which I use to give away as prizes for the winning gangster.

Here you can see the wooden pistols I picked up from

Positive, they look and feel great, negative, can't play outside!

You can see a burlap sack I got from the container store, which I use to mix up the chips. I recommend against burlap since the fibers get everywhere.

I also dropped by a bead shop and got some nice wound markers, red crosses which are cracked and stained in black. They are also nice and heavy like the chips.

Did printing at Artscow and Printer Studio. Would recommend PS over Artscow.

And because I had some extra cards left over, I printed up some "Wanted" cards for winning players to fill out with their name and amount. This is useful as we can track who's won in the past and players take this into account during the next play.

Fun fun project. And my gaming group loves this version of CnG. Kudos to Maddock!

I'm wondering how the 'chickening out' part works without the stand-ups? Do you have a work around?

This is a beautiful and amazing design. The only thing that seems out of place with your rethemed setting is still using a grenade on the insane special power. It would be more thematic as a stick of dynamite. But this is absoutely amazing as is anyway. VERY COOL! I never picked up cash and guns because i didn't like the art and look of it though the idea sounds great. The new edition doesn't seem like that much of an improvement...but this is a thing of beauty. This i would play and play and play.
