50 Something Gamer of 30+ years experience. Previously active in AHIKS and other clubs for many years. Old-fashioned in taste. Prefer multi-player and naval.
Despite growing up with Avalon Hill and being heavily oriented towards the military aspect of their games, I now find that my attention span for complex, heavy games is shortening noticably and my preference nowadays is for the Euro-style games, preferably multi-player, where I can have a laugh and not worry so much about winning. I also don't end up with headaches.
One thing that I feel that the hobby misses is the ability to unite all players around the world, whether war, board, figure, role-players, card gamers etc. etc. We all have contacts, circles of friends or just amuse ourselves, but I would love someone, one day, to be able to pull everyone together to give the hobby a hugely powerful voice and really push us all into the forefront of the hobby/entertainment industry. That's my dream!
I also run The Weekend Gaming Group (WGG). We hold 2 conventions in the U.K. during the year - one in Knutsford, Cheshire and one in Kenton, Harrow. Both seem to be succesful and continue to be well supported. If you fancy a smallish, quiet, gaming type of con, give me a call. I always enjoy the weekends as a break from the daily rat-race and I'm pleased to have made many new friends over the years.
Santa Grogs - Appreciate your efforts, but if my wargame list is awkward for cost and availability, do by all means go for a Euro or one of my other wants. I guess my wargame needs are pretty limited nowadays. Better to be happy!
Latest: Have just received 2 parcels that look awesome. However, mother ship will not allow me to open them before the 25th. So can I say many thanks now and perhaps a bigger thank you after the 25th!
Update: Fantastic surprise! Not only Race to the Rhine which really wanted, but also Blocks in the West. Looks excellent and scary, but I'll start pushing pieces around as soon as I can.
Many, many thanks to a very generous Santa Grogs!
