Past
I´m a geek of younger generation. My gaming hobby started at age of 8, with Warhammer, which I played with my brother and cousins. I had also a small collection of MtG, RPG:s and few eurogames found from market (Lord of the Rings, Manhattan etc.)
When I was eleven, I read from a newspaper there are boardgames better than those usual found from markets. Soon after that I bought Settlers of Catan from a local gaming store and it really addicted me. I started to buy games occasionally but most of my time still went on Warhammers.
About two years later, I found Finnish boardgame site Lautapelaaja.net (made by Mikko Saari) and Finnish Board Game Society and its website. I realized that there is lot´s of boardgames and players around there. As I didn´t have regular gaming group yet, I organized one in my school. I also started to attend cons here in Finland. Soon I also joined an other gaming group here in Savonlinna.
Present
I still run my own gaming group and I play lot of games. I try to make over 200 ratings in BGG, which is a kind of line between geeks and non-geeks here in Finland.
About games I like: Theme isn´t really important to me. Sometimes in a right group good theme makes a game better (Ca$h´n´Gun$ is a great example) but usually it doesn´t matter. I like more games that include lots of tactical decisions compared to strategical ones. Also I usually prefer games that recycle and combine old mechanics well to games that try to make a new one.
