12/8/12 - Wow - 6 years have gone by since I updated this. Our weekly group is going strong, although my son:
has moved to Philadelphia. Currently we have so many new games that most never make it to the table, and many others only get a single play. My collection has grown so large that if I played a different game every day it wold take me 7 years to play them all. I may start selling in 2013! Those rare games that regularly make it to the table more than once a year are Air Baron, Imperial, Railways of the World and 7 Wonders. Vinci remains my favorite and IMO is the best game ever designed. 1989 took the innovations of Twilight Struggle to the next level. Martin Wallace remains my favorite designer with Vlaada Chvatil being the best of the newer designers. I have given up almost completely on computer games but I do play PS3. Hopefully I'll be around to update this again in another 6 years.
11/17/06 - OK its been quite a few years since I wrote the paragraph below so its time for a brief update. Currently I have been greatly reducing my computer gaming in favor of board gaming for a few reasons. First, we now have a group that is willing to get togther at least weekly for board games. Second, as I get older my reaction time is slowing for the "shooter" type computer games. Our weekly group is still doing mostly euro/German style games - Caylus, El Grande, Warrior Knights, etc. Vinci is still my favorite and I think truly deserves to be designated a "classic". From playing Twilight Struggle I have also developed an interest in card-driven wargames. Lately I have played We the People, Paths of Glory, and WW2: Barabarossa to Berlin. As time permits, I would like to start doing some of the CDG games on-line.
I have an extensive collection - thousands of board and computer games. My interest is now primarily German style games that I can play with my teenage children. Our current favorites are Vinci, Union Pacific, Air Baron, and just about any of the Rio Grande Games. We also do a lot of computer gaming but not too much on-line - we have 3 computers networked at home (hopefully soon to be 4) so we do things like Unreal Tournament and Age of Empires II. We have an informal group that gets together occasionally so we would welcome hearing from mature gamers in the Erie, PA area. [/url]
