Right... about me... so what do you want to know? Well, as suggested by the Geeklist
"What makes a good BGG profile" I'll attempt to answer the common questions.
I work in theatre as a Technical Director and Lighting Designer in the Seattle area. I grew up in the area playing games with the family; have traveled a fair bit including spending 4 years in college in Illinois where I learned of such games as Settlers of Catan
and returned to the Northwest a couple years later to discover the recent revolution in the world of board games.
My taste is varied; I like many different games for different reasons. I prefer more complex games with lots of possibilities, and I like heavy interaction and lots of theme. I like the social aspects of games, I like the strategic planning, and I like the thematic storytelling of highly-themed games. Battlestar Galactica is my favorite game so far, though I'd never seen the TV show when I first fell in love with the game. Generally, however, I'm a big fan of collaboration and teamwork (I work as a collaborative artist, after all) so co-op games always fall high on my list. I'm not highly competitive, and I don't care much if I win at competitive games, but I always play to win regardless, as that is the point of the game. Games with pasted-on themes like Ra or lack of choices (and high randomness) like Candyland are what I tend to dislike.
My name, Blackfaer, is so far unique - I'm the only one on the internet and have been since the mid 90's. The etymology of the name relates to darkness/shadow, natural spirits, magic, and fire. As a lighting designer and general theatre technician, I work in the darkness generally wearing black and create light and effects to illuminate the performance; I'm also an Eagle Scout and can teach survival skills and the like, I do rock-climbing, skiing, hiking, canoeing etc. Hence the name.
My avatar is a modified version of the logo painted on the Firefly-class ship "Serenity" from Joss Whedon's film of the same name. Both for my fandom of the film and TV series Firefly, as well as for the symbolism of the Chinese characters (translating to, again, 'Serenity') tied into my spiritual/religious outlook of Taoist ideals.
