This game craze really started for me in 2006 when, on a whim, I bought Ticket to Ride
along with some other games from Days of Wonder
as Christmas gifts. I began playing more with my family and was instantly hooked. Carcassonne
followed next and soon thereafter I discovered BGG, found a game group with other like-minded obsessives, and was solidly launched into this seriously addictive hobby.
My wife and two sons have been my steady gaming partners, but now with both off to college, I have started focusing more on games that just my wife and I can enjoy as two-players. Even so, it is hard to control oneself, and I find myself buying games that I am increasingly unlikely to play now, and this darned website doesn't make it any easier.
I will play and enjoy pretty much anything that is good, and as you can see from my ratings, I find most games pretty enjoyable. Though my traditional loves continue to be the euro games, such as Power Grid
, and Railways of the World
, I find myself increasingly intrigued with the Fantasy Flight Games
offerings: A Game of Thrones (first edition)
and my all time favorite, Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)
. The problem is finding the time or players for these epics. And as each year passes, there are that many more choices. So many games, so little time............Here are my 10 most recently played:
