Hi! My name is Anthony, and I live in Orlando, Florida. For as long as I can remember I've liked board games, but I got into the hobby more seriously in 2010 after being introduced to Ticket to Ride
Growing up my parents made a tradition of giving each kid a board game for Christmas. They were hit and miss, but some of the hits were Monopoly
, The Game of Life
, and Tripoley
. Into my teenage years I discovered Munchkin
, and continued to play Scrabble and Chess with some regularity but I was far from being a "gamer." Some of my friends played D&D but it wasn't my cuppa. In college I played Texas Hold-Em almost exclusively with some Scrabble and Risk games few and far between. After college I got into classic card games like Pinochle
, and Cribbage
. And more Scrabble (Man, you'd think I'd be pretty good at this point? I'm not.). Then I moved to California and only played the Wii or Apples to Apples
. When I moved back to Arizona I still played Wii, but not Apples to Apples. Now I play in Florida, mostly with just a few friends, but maybe you saw me at Dice Tower Con, Hello!
My user name, Elocution Safari, comes from a line from the TV show "The West Wing."
My taste in games is evolving, but it's safe to say I'm more of a Euro guy. I like worker placement, card drafting, role selection, tableau building, action point allowance, and hidden roles. I love a good party game, too! I don't like "take that" mechanisms, player elimination in long games (in fillers it's okay sometimes), or thematic games with a lot of luck and complex rules (i.e. Heavy Ameritrash). Here's what I'm excited about right now:
