I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed.
I wasn't going to write a letter to Santa, but Writing the perfect Letter to Santa...or how I learned to stop worrying cuz Santa's da bomb!
said I should, so here goes:
It's hard to believe December is right around the corner. I hope you've had a lovely off-season, and that you're rested and ready for your big season!
This seems to be going okay so far.
Every year, just after Thanksgiving, my daughter (now 16) and I start the ritual of retrieving the myriad of boxes with decorations from the attic. We'll spend all day carefully un-packing, categorizing and sorting everything, reminiscing about Christmas' past. The first of the holiday DVDs will be playing. Even our cats and dogs get into the act!
Wait, I don't even have a daughter... or a cat... or more than one dog. I'm starting to think the GeekList is giving me bad advice.
Santa, I want to assure you that I've been a very good boy/girl this year! I ate all my vegetables, took out the trash, was nice to everyone around me, and generally farted rainbows everywhere I went. References available upon request.
While most of this probably isn't true, it sounds good. I'm feeling better about this letter again.
Santa, I'm sure you've suffered the same economic difficulties as the rest of us these past few years. Please rest assured that I will treasure whatever you send me, be it a gently used game from my list, or a modestly priced shiny new one. I appreciate the generosity it represents.
Still sounding good.
Just so you know Santa, I often play games with my wife and another couple. Worker placement games have been a big hit, but I'm hoping their interests expand as we play more!
Wait... what? I don't even have a wife.
I'm sure you already know, but Acme Games is just a few blocks from where I live, and I know the owner, Jerry, would be more than happy to help you out in this most busy season! (I also happen to know that he just got a copy of Mage Knight! hint hint)
This letter is going downhill fast. There's no game store near me, and I already own Mage Knight
Santa, regardless of what you send, just know that the joy and anticipation of unexpected delights is truly present enough for me. I'm healthy and happy, and enjoy more blessings than I can count. Thank you for participating in this big, wonderful BGG Secret Santa tradition!
Well, that last paragraph was fine, but I think this letter is unsalvageable.
Okay, let's try again. This time I won't be taking advice (a.k.a. stealing directly from) a GeekList:Dear Santa,
I hope you are doing well heading into this busy season. This year just flew by.
I do most of my gaming with a regular group. We've been holding weekly Game Nights for several years now, and recently added a second night every week. We play many different types of games, though since we meet on weeknights, anything over 3-4 hours can be difficult to fit in. We have started doing monthly Epic Game Days, in order to have a good opportunity to play some longer games.
My wishlist is composed of games that I have looked into, and have piqued my interest; though I am always interested in finding new games that I would like that I may have never heard of. Gently used games are also perfectly acceptable.
Thank you for participating in this wonderful BGG Secret Santa tradition, and I hope you have as much fun with it as I do.
