I'm Shawn, and I'm a 30 year old guy living in Toledo, Ohio. I've been married to my wonderful wife for 8 years. We have 2 beautiful little girls, and I'm having a blast watching them learn and grow.
I've been a big fan of games my entire life, growing up playing simple board games with my family when I was younger, and then moving more into computer and video games as I grew. It was nearly impossible to pry me away from my original Game Boy, and later my Nintendo 64. Going into college, I played a lot of Gamecube and PS2, as well as card games like Euchre, only playing board games on rare occasion. After getting married, I became much more of a PC gamer, and was a key member in one of the top raiding guilds on our server in World of Warcraft for a few years. I have since moved away from MMORPGs.
I was introduced to the wonderful world of hobby board games about 6 years ago by a friend. I had already played Settlers of Catan a few times, but this friend introduced me to games like Ticket to Ride: Europe, Bohnanza, and Citadels. Shortly after that, I ordered Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne as games for my wife and I to play. Slowly, my interest in the hobby grew. I discovered BoardGameGeek and found a local retailer that carried lots of games at cheap prices. My collection continues to grow to this day.
I would categorize my interests as light-medium games, somewhere in the 2-3 weight range. I enjoy a little bit from each genre (although admittedly I haven't dabbled in wargaming yet), with preferences for cooperative, worker placement, deckbuilding, and role selection games. I love introducing my non-gaming friends to games, which is why you find so many gateway-style games in my collection. I also enjoy gaming with my wife, which is why the vast majority of my games work well with two.
Today, you can occasionally find me gaming with the guys over at the SAGES club in Toledo.
