I am the director of Cheeky Parrot Games
of Auckland, founded in 2014. We now own titles originally published by my former company: Raid the Pantry
and Granny Wars
. I was the lead designer of Raid the Pantry and one of my main contributions to Granny Wars was coming up with the theme of rival nanas.
With Amanda Milne I founded SchilMil Games
in 2011. Together we (also) invented the games, Komodo
, and Kenakalan
, released in 2012. (These titles are now distributed in New Zealand and Australia by Cheeky Parrot Games.) In 2013 we took a raw prototype created by Brad Thompson and turned it into Granny Wars
. My fifth and final collaboration with Amanda is Manifest
, published in August 2014. My main contribution to that was the deck builder.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. As a child I enjoyed Monopoly, as we would play it on snow days when none of us had to work or go to school; pinochle; Othello; Mastermind; Clue; Acquire; Facts in Five; and, at gatherings of my mother's family, Charades. I graduated from Washington University in St Louis, having studied Anthropology and French.
Following that I lived in Denver for about five years, where I held a couple of interesting jobs and did volunteer work, the latter continuing when I moved to Southern California.
In 2000 I immigrated to New Zealand with my then-husband and son. Here in New Zealand I studied and attempted to practice homeopathy, was introduced to Euro games (Carcasonne was my gateway), got divorced, and taught English as a second language. These days I work full time for Cheeky Parrot and I'm happily re-partnered with my wonderful Kiwi fiance, Chris.
I enjoy Euro games that play in 45-90 minutes. I also play competitive Scrabble and am ranked in the top 100 in New Zealand. I spend some free time playing on Board Game Arena; these days Stone Age, Takenoko and Tokaido are my favorites. Join me for a game? My handle there is also Schil.
