I'm married to an amazing woman, father to two awesome boys (11 and 8), and an editor.
I'll play just about anything once, but I'm very harsh on "mindless" games that overstay their welcome. A 90-minute game of Zombies will make me mad as a hatter.
The sweet spot for me is a 90-minute thinker where I've got to devise a plan, act on that plan, and be prepared to change things on the fly when something goes awry. Hence my love of Princes of Florence, Amun-Re, Agricola, Goa...
I've also fallen hard for LCGs... Dangit.
I'm a very casual wargamer--emphasis on the word game. "Don't design a simulation that masquerades as a game, but rather design a game that can stand among the simulations"~Mark Simonitch"A game plays best when it focuses on important aspects and leaves the rest to general effect."~Vance von BorriesThat's
the sort of wargame I enjoy--the one that never forgets it's a game
. Richard Berg need not apply.
I also blog about board games and God on Theology of Games
. You should check it out! It's not always about God. Just if it seems like a natural fit for the game. Other than that, we've got daily news, reviews, and interviews.
