A Brief History of Me...
AH and SPI wargames with my Dad in the 70s & 80s.
RPGs (mainly D&D) in the 80s and early 90s.
CCGs (way too many of them for way too many $$) since '95, with a few years' break in the early 21st Century. Now we're pretty much just doing the LCGs (mainly Netrunner, 40K, SW), nonCCGs (Doomtown: Reloaded), nonCMGs (X-Wing, Wings of War), which are all great, plus dabbling in a few others (Spoils, EVE).
First played "Settlers of Catan" in 2003 and the rest, as is typical for BGGers, is history.
I tend to prefer playing as meaty a game as any given time slot allows, but I enjoy fillers, card games, party games and whatnot as well. Don't get to play nearly as much as I used to now that I have kids at home, but that's a fine trade (and they're starting to get old enough for decent games now).
I also have the game design bug. We use a private Wiki plus I'm occasionally active over at BGDF
these are some of my current or all-time favorites.Hot 10:
I'm now using this to track my top 10 games that I own but haven't played yet - my "need to play" hit-list.
I've kept up with entering game plays on BGG since 2004.Favorite BGG Gaming Quote
I'm a firm believer that you should go into every first gaming experience hoping to win, expecting to lose, and determined to learn.Ratings:
Last Total Update: August 2012. I hew fairly closely to the BGG suggested ratings definitions. I only have a few 10s - these are games that I love playing, even though they don't necessarily make it to the table with great frequency. Anything that's a 7 or higher is a pretty good game and I'll generally play it any time.A Note on Card Plays
Effective 11/1/2012, I will be logging LCG plays under their actual LCG entry. Prior to this date, I logged all AGOT plays under the CCG entry, etc. As I have completely divested myself of the CCG form of all of the LCGs, I thought I should log under the actual correct game entry from now on.Pre-logging Plays
As of May 2013, I've gone back and added 1 play on 9/9/1999 to every game that I've played pre-logging; this mainly covers games played when I was in college or younger. As of Jan 2015, I'm also adding 1 play on 8/8/1988 to expansions and stand-alone games for which I log only under the base game; I do this to make it easier for me to filter my collection by play statistics. So nerdy.
