I am a 29 year old dual citizen of Canada and the United States. I was born in Canada and lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario for 23 years of my life until I met my husband
and I moved to Kentucky, where he is originally from. My husband Alan and I have been together for 8 years and I have lived in the southern United States for 5 years. We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary on January 3rd, 2010.
We LOVE to play board games. I grew up with a house full of games from as early as I can remember, from Don't Break the Ice
when I was just a wee one, to obscure games like The The Hamburger Game
and Mr. Trucker
when I got older, and the regulars like Cribbage
when I was an adolescent.
I came from a small, widely dispersed family that loved card games and competition. Every time we got together, the decks of cards came out. I remember my mom and grandma playing Canasta
, which has now become a family tradition. I was too young to learn this complicated game and too small to hold such a big hand of cards, but I would watch with such curiosity and envy that I couldn't get in on those melds. However it was MY job to hold my grandma's Red 3's and this made me feel better! But when the table came free, it was MY turn...
I was the young gamer of the family; the luckiest kid when it came to card games (just ask my husband how I do with dice). My grandpa and I would play Rummy, my grandma and I would play Casino
, and I almost always won. When I got older, my grandparents brought me to the casino just to see how lucky I REALLY was. And it paid off
I'm all grown up now and there's just my parents, my husband and me in the family but we manage to play games as much as possible. Alan and I try to play SOMETHING every night, and when my parents visit, my Mom can't wait to play Canasta and Ticket to Ride
. We are a very much a gaming family.
Outside of boardgames, I enjoy camping, traveling and anything outdoors when the weather is cool in Kentucky (which is not very often). I work in law enforcement and I attended university for Anthropology and Forensic Science. That probably explains why I like strategy games so well; it's hard to turn off the analytical brain.
My husband and I bought our first home in March, 2008 and since then, we've had to put gaming aside for a while. We've been busy moving, unpacking, training a new puppy, decorating our beautiful new home and finishing the basement - complete with a game area! It will all be worth the wait.My Top 10 Games
...are a list of my favorite games to play and ones that I will never turn down. These are staples in our collection and are ones we try to introduce to our non-gaming friends and family. My Hot 10 Games
