Please note that I no longer rate any game on BGG. The rating system has been proven a worthless sham more than once, open to manipulation by any group that chooses to do so, even with open Admin support.
I'm leaving this list of retailers here as a reminder for myself:
A collector of wargames & boardgames of odd, unexpected & downright wrong ideas. I've come to realise I don't mind abstracts, so long as they're not working too hard at being abstract. So Hnefatafl
Since most of the games I'm interested in are way out of print, I'm happy with used but complete games - although stains and highlighting are the marks of Satan. In fact, as my FLGS holds games for me, I can get in trouble if someone buys me a new game
My former enthusiasm for complex consims has pretty much gone now - I'd far rather have a simple system with a few well-chosen exceptions and special rules. And since I primarily play solo, there has to be some
solo capability in there (although I'll happily play games like Commands & Colors: Ancients
or Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! – Russia 1941-42
I haven't played an RPG for a couple of years, and I'm unlikely to again, although I will be buying a few books just for the joy of reading and to support the best quality. Especially Hollow Earth Expedition
and All Flesh Must Be Eaten Revised Edition
- if the latter still exists!
And since we now have VGG too, a mention of my taste in Video games. PC games, I should add. I've never owned a console or any other computer system other than an Acorn Electron... I'll have a go at any sort of Video game, other than sports simulation (and maybe even then...) or detailed RPGs (I played proper RPGs for 26 years, computer RPGs are just pretty looking spreadsheets with fixed, limited responses). I like racing/driving games & flight simulators, but I can't be bothered endlessly repeating the same actions time & again to get through a linear game. The Tomb Raider series are the only platform/action games I really got into. My nice new Win7x64 laptop plays my 5-year-old games very very well indeed, but struggles at the highest video settings of the newest games I've tried.
