38 years old and a mom to 3 beautiful girls (11, 7, and 3 years old). As if that weren't enough to keep me busy, I am also in the process of finishing a degree in education.
In my free time (when I have some) I enjoy doing a lot of different things besides playing board games. I love to cook and bake for family and friends. I sing, read, knit, and volunteer at church.
My husband and I have been married for 13 years and have always enjoyed playing board games together. We both started playing games in childhood and never really stopped. Take a look at this geeklist
I created that describes my journey into the hobby.Who do I play with?My husdand:
We often play together but he tends to prefer learning one new game and playing it often rather than try different games every few weeks/months. Some of the games that have been big hits with us are Agricola
,Puerto Rico: Limited Anniversary Edition
, and Eclipse
. My eldest daughter (11yrs):
She is my most willing and most reliable gaming partner. She will play just about anything anytime. I really enjoy playing with her. She is starting to develop some skills and strategies of her own. She is also always willing to learn a new game. Because she shares my enthusiasm, we often play just the 2 of us. Her favourite games include Survive: Escape from Atlantis!
, Railways of the World
and Le Havre
. She especially LOVES games with money!Daughter #2 (6yrs):
She is just starting to enjoy board games and has been asking to play more often. It's always a challenge to find games that my eldest and 6 year old can ply at the same time, but the age gap is starting to become less of a factor. Some of the games that we've been able to enjoy together lately are Takenoko
, Survive: Escape from Atlantis!
, and Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Just recently we were able to play a game of UNO as a whole family. The littlest one was able to play with an open hand and we told her to either match the colour or sign (number). It worked very well and she seemed to enjoy herself. I was so happy to play a game with the whole family for the first time. I can't wait to have more family game nights! Again, finding games to suit everyone at the same time is a challenge. If you have any suggestions Santa, I would love to hear them! We tried Viva Topo!
, but I think she is still a bit too young for it.My "gaming group":
Not a gaming group per se. This group consists of my husband and our friends. But since it is mostly the men who do the gaming and are not staying home with the kids, my group gaming is totally dependent on my husband. Basically our gaming group boils down to me asking my husband if his friends can come over to play. Popular games with the group have been Catan
and Power GridOne of my best friends:
We have gotten together to play games a few times. She loves strategy games and really enjoyed the new games I taught her. She is also a worthy opponent. Unfortunately, we are always too exhausted from taking care of babies all day to get together in the evening. But it is in the plans for the future. Games that we enjoyed together are Agricola
and Last Will
.How do I get anybody to play with me?My hot 10
are the games that are on the top of my current wishlist. These are games that I would love
to get my hands on. My top 10
are my favourite games of the moment. These are games that I try to get to the table any chance I get.
Game that is currently seeing the most play time with my husband: Agricola
. Once we get on a momentum with Agricola, it's hard to stop...
