I play just about every kind of game. My favorites are medium strategy games (e.g. Puerto Rico
, El Grande
) and a bit heavier games (Brass
, Terra Mystica
). I also like filler games (For Sale
, Ca$h 'n Gun$
, Loopin' Louie
), light games (Pandemic
, Ticket to Ride
), some party games (Catch Phrase!
, Three For All!
), some dexterity games (Crokinole
) and kids games (Gulo Gulo
, Duck, Duck, Bruce
). Whenever possible, I like to get my hands on games with new ideas and different mechanics. I prefer Euro-style games, but will play just about anything.
Top 10 are my favorites to play with adults. Hot 10 are my favorites to play with my kids.10 Most Recently Played Games
I've recorded all of my plays since January, 2007.
I start my comments with "(KIDS)" when I purchased or played the game intending to play primarily with my kids. Many of these games are also great for adults. I typically rate these games based on my experience playing them with my kids.History
In July 2007, I wrote a history of my gaming life... From Player to Geek to Gamer...Designing
I design and invent new games and mechanics. I'm always working on a few games which I once described here, but I'm not sure anyone cared to read all of it. So, I'm just going to post a picture of a prototype I'm working on and change it up once in a while...Go Big
- My brother and I came up with this card game based on a non-game related conversation we had that led to a neat scoring system that rewards bigger risks. The game allows for some planning and "take-that." We were going to enter it into a bluffing design contest, but this game is 2 player only so it does not qualify. We're playtesting now and in the end, at least, we'll likely create some decks for us to play this ourselves. We have developed over several weeks now and we think it's a good, quick game for two.
