My current project is Riptide
. A Race for the Galaxy clone, to put it simply.
I have a pretty heavy background in boardgaming. Raised in a family where mass-market games were played quite heavily (Monopoly
, etc.) As a teen continued that into Risk
, Castle Risk
, Scotland Yard
, etc., with very heavy play of 52-card games at school (Spades
, Scum: The Food Chain Game
, etc.) In young adulthood (1997/98) i discovered Magic: The Gathering
and got heavily into that. Learned Texas hold 'em Poker
in 2003, and made that my livelihood until 2014. Discovered eurogames in late 2008, have fallen in love with them and here i am!
Qualities i most value in games, in no particular order: maximal portability, minimal length (for gaming session flexibility due to ppls' variable time constraints), accomodating to variable number of players (and equally high quality of play regardless of number of players), extreme replayability, depth, complexity, unsolvability, hidden information, bluffing, psychology/human element. No surprise then that RftG
is my holy grail. I consistently prefer card board games over regular "board" games. Most enjoy
heavy/strategy/variable player powers/bluffing/scifi/exploration/dice management/spies_secret agents/theme/real-time and most dislike
coop/diplomacy/abstract/wargames/miniatures/fantasy/output dice rolling/auctioning/area control/area influence.

My Top 10 is the shortlist of games i most want to play right now
. A mix of faves, new discoveries i want to try again, and games i want to try for the first time. [Unpublished Prototype
refers to Riptide, and secondly to a fascinating card game a buddy created, mixing Magic and Race.] If you want to see my alltime Top 10, check my ratings. My Hot 10 is my last 10 game plays.
I record all
game plays since i joined (including online, software and solo plays), so wysiwyg. A play is logged under the most recent expansion used (plays usually include all previous expansions). I've never logged online poker sessions, and have stopped logging live poker sessions: the money-earning aspect makes them all work no play. I generally don't rate expansions, and what i write in the base game includes expansions (exception: Race). Plays mentioned in base game Comments are total plays including expansions (exception: Race).
