I like board games. A lot. Im lucky to have Had 2 good friends who owned an FLGS for 8 years, So I got most of my stuff from them.
Things of course started with the typical settlers/carcassone route. When my friends opened their store in 2003, the best "game" I had played was Risk 2210.
They quickly expanded their board game selection, and were told by a distributor to bring in "settlers of catan" and "carcassonne"
what the crap are those?!?! Supposedly they were super popular, so they ordered them, and we tried them and got hooked!!!!
I like most types of games, but overall I still prefer eurogames than ameritrash. Eurogames usually can be more suited for 2 players, which is important, as I play a lot with only one other person. And the boring "trading in the mediterranean" themes really appeal to me. I love the themes in ameritrash games we well, but tend to prefer games with less conflict. I avoid combat in twilight imperium, I go for economic, technological, or culture victories in civilization, and I get really annoyed when Khorne attacks me in Chaos in the Old World. If I can win without combat, I usually try to.
Also not a big fan of a lot of TAKE THAT aspects of games. Some games are just so awesome that they break that mold of thinking though, like Kemet, for example.
Pure conflict games I do enjoy playing, though. I love Warhammer 40k. And Nightfall is my favorite deck builder besides Dominion.
