As a boardgamer receiving orders to Japan, I was under the assumption that no one in Okinawa would share the same hobby. I regret leaving my collection behind and locking them up in storage until my tour was over.
However, as a new, hex and counter wargamer, I was able to find space in our baggage and took some solitaire games from LNL and GMT along for the ride.
As a miniature painter, shipping was expensive so to scratch my painting itch, I took on some Gundam model kits.
Since my arrival, I've been slowly rebuilding my library. I've attended meet ups and even hosted for a handful of my "muggle" coworkers.
As for the rest of my family, this is their first experience away from home and so far, they are enjoying the food, the snorkeling, and the culture.
