2012 Santa, you're elves did indeed leave a package of goodies on my door. My wife verified they were wrapped in paper then under the tree they went. There they'll stay cause I'm no peeker (though my record isn't perfect). I was very excited to see there were two presents; and heavy ones at that! Can't wait to find out which they are. Merry Christmas to you and may your Secret Santa be bring you as much cheer as you've brought me!
I've always been attracted to board games, especially starting with Axis & Allies as a young teen. When I discovered the geek my interest grew into an obsession. I've owned nearing 400 games, though lately my tastes and preferences have shifted from collecting at all costs, to pairing down and holding onto fewer games that hold deeper meaning to me.
I do game with my kids and wife, though lately with finishing my MBA and getting a real jobby-job, my time is shorter than I'd like for playing games. I used to play every week with my gaming group; now I'm lucky to play a good game once a month.
Another big shift has been toward wargames. I recently invested heavily into ASL figuring that with such a big rulebook it would provide a lifetime of interesting reading. I do read it every couple of nights before bed, especially when I want to fall asleep fast. I do enjoy it, though I have yet to play an actual game
. Since then I got into Combat Commander and I must say that at the time of this writing it's my top game. I enjoy a game that lends itself to good post game analysis.
Besides my new taste for wargames, I also enjoy economic games. Wealth of Nations and Indonesia I will always think of fondly.
As far as my current wishlist, finalizing an equitable trade is rare. I mostly mark games as 'want in trade' as a reminder to myself that it is something I really want. Kind of like an A+ vs an A. Continuing my pattern of keeping fewer and better games, I'm also interested in finding expansion sets for those that have them.
Truth be told, I'm grateful to try any new game at least once and I appreciate any gift.
