I'm an American expat living in Berlin, introduced to "Eurogames" by German friends, and have become an übergeek.
I stumbled into a gaming group of designers (nice people, too), not even knowing who they were until I realized we were mostly playing prototypes. Now I'm hooked on game designing as well.
I also wrote about my experiences monthly in "Postcards From Berlin" for Boardgamenews.com and am continuing the series for OpinionatedGamers.com. I have a blog called "Berlin Game Design" which shows the design process for my games and those of my group, along with other thoughts on game design and an occasional free print-n-play game.
I'll play just about any game that does not take more than 3 hours to complete, has some interesting decisions, and incorporates at least a little bit of thematic atmosphere. My Top 10 list, however, reflects the most popular games at the game nights I host for regular people. My Hot 10 is a list of the games I've had published that I would most like to play. My REAL Hot 10 list would mostly be made up of unpublished prototypes. The games marked "want to play" in my collection are those I own but have not yet played.
Although I do have opinions, I do not usually write reviews or rate games (unless I really like them), as it seems to me to be a conflict of interest, now that I am in competition with other designers. Good luck to all!
