Over the years I have been involved in many different kinds of games. This has given me an interest in many types: Abstract, RPG, Wargames, Miniatures, Ameritrash and Eurogames.
Today with 4 children most, if not all, face to face gaming is within the family. But as they are at a good "gamer age" 8 to 14 years, this isn’t bad and we enjoy a huge variety of games.Abstract
There I grew up, were where few organized activities for kids. I sucked at football and ice hockey, so I started to go to the local chess club instead. I played quite a lot of competitive chess but stopped after a change of school at the age of 15. At that stage it was going fairly well, but it would have required a huge amount of study to reach higher levels.
I still enjoy an occasional game of chess, but today the interest has drifted towards classical eastern abstracts like go or shogi. The current favorite is XiangQi which has a very different feel than traditional western chess.RPG
A few years in the early eighties I was in a group who played AD&D (first version) a lot. We tested other RPGs as well but most time was spent in the dungeons.
This was long a slumbering interest, but the oldest kids have convinced me pick it up again. Wargames
During my RPG days, we also played a lot of wargames. Today I would call myself a collector more than a player. Once in while a little solitaire play, but most of the fun comes from the collecting. Hopefully this will change in the future.Miniatures
This interest started almost by mistake. One Christmas we needed a stocking filler for one of the boys. We were in a hurry and first thing that caught our eye was a small box of Warhammer figures. It turned out that he was too young to paint them himself and I had to do it. It was great fun and I soon started to buy figures for myself.
Today I have way to many figures from various gaming systems. Also I’m almost a compulsory buyer of rulebooks. Ameritrash and Eurogames
This is the latest addition to the list of interests and it is here that the most gaming takes place today. Random games from collection: Random games from wishlist:
