So, yeah, I like games. I've been playing games all my life in a variety of ways. I've made gaming my career in the world of video games, and I've started exploring game development in a more "dice and cardboard" sense in the last year. I published my first game Bullfrogs
in the first quarter of 2015. My next project is Roll Player
. Check it out when you get a chance.
Anyway, more about me. I've always loved games. Though my recent obsession with board games started in 2009. I had moved back to Madison, WI after living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 7 years. A friend from California visited me and REALLY wanted to show me Puerto Rico. So, we went out and bought it and played it a few times over the course of the weekend. I thought it was interesting enough, but I didn't think much more of it. A few months later, I found myself living in a new city, where my wife and I didn't really know anyone and I was looking for a social outlet. I saw that copy of Puerto Rico sitting on the shelf and started looking for some gamers in the area. I ran into a group online and blindly went to a gaming session. I played Colosseum. It was fun and I saw some of the other games people were playing and got more and more excited about all the interesting things happening in this hobby. So,I kept coming and board gaming became a much bigger focus of my life. I even went back and found my old copies of Scotland Yard and Survive from when I was a little boy at my mom's place. They've actually gotten some play since, which was fun.
I play often and help lead that group now. The guild is on BGG. We're called Guilded Chaos
. You can ussually see pictures of the latest game sessions on our Guild page. I teach games regularly and have one of the larger collections in the group now. I also made some really good friends in the process.
In the last year, I've started trying my hand at miniature painting. I'm currently painting up all the heros from Descent, Runebound and Runewars. I find it challenging, relaxing and makes my games look awesome.
I am also a musician. I've played guitar and bass guitar most of my life. I've played in bands off and on for the last 20 years. Anyway, I have a bechelor's in Music. I've taught music from time to time and worked at a recording studio for some time.
Another type of gaming that is a large part of my life is video games. I started with Atari 2600, Collecovision and Intellivision in my youth. Then I played a ton of the Ultima series on PC. (IV being the best!) I also loved the Fallout series, Everquest, Everquest Online Adventures and World of Warcraft. I started working in the video game industry in 2001 as a Tester, and played a lot of games during that generation of games. I currently work at Raven Software, a video game developer. Previously, I was at a game publisher in California called Konami. It's been a fun ride. I love my job. I've worked on over 40 games at this point in my career. I played a lot of PS1, PS2, Xbox and X360 games in the last decade, but I find that the more I play board games, the less I play video games outside of work.
Some of the more notable games I've worked on:
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore
Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore 2
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 4
Metal Gear Solid 3
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
I also have a new son named Isaac. He was born on 3/1/2011. He's awesome and I love being his daddy.
