I've loved board games all my life. A games shop called Gamer's Paradice introduced me to various new games outside of the typical Monopoly or Battleship crap. Stuff that really caught my eye there were the Avalon Hill and Games Workshop games. Just a few years ago, I found this great web site and opened my eyes to all types of games. This site got me interested in games like Carcassonne, Battlelore, Tigris and Euphrates, Power Grid and Settlers of Catan. Now the games are starting to add up in my closet... my wife thinks I'm crazy.
Now my collection has grown. I feel that my collection is fairly well rounded. I have a bunch of Euro type games and a bunch of Ameritrash. I do love a good worker placement game, but I think I lean more toward the Ameritrash games. I love a game with a good theme as well. Skirmish games such as Earth Reborn is probably my favorite. Games like Summoner Wars and Mage Wars are also some of my favorites where you summon and order around units.
The toughest time is finding people to play the games. The wife plays once in a while. The family avoid the games like a plague since they take too long and you actually have to think.
My ideal night would be having a beer in my hand with 3 or four good friends playing a competitive board game
Now I have two young kids and I'm to the point where I'm introducing them to boardgames. I'm finding myself hating games that have no thought behind it that are being sold in retail. Candyland/Chutes and Ladders drive me nuts. It's just flicking a spinner or flipping a card. Thank God for the BGG to offer new choices and ideas for games that I can give my kids.
