I run a gamer's group for my church. Holt(Lansing Area), MI Open Gaming twice monthly
. We generally play the typical gateway/family games with some Euros mixed in although I don't think there's much we won't try out.
Ratings are currently influx as I'm going over all of my games again as it has been some time since I have done so and a number of games feel in need of an update.
I've come to the conclusion I prefer games in the 2.4 to 3.5 weight range if playing a non-filler game. Anything above 3.5 needs to be on the shorter side and played at least somewhat frequently.
Sixty to ninety minutes seems like a solid time frame for a game.
I prefer strategy over tactical even though some of my favorite games might be more tactical than one would assume.
Definitely prefer open systems versus ones that are restrictive.
Favorite mechanics would include worker placement, role selection(variable phase order), and action placement.
Least favorite mechanic is set collection.
Collection size for ideal would likely be 50-75 although once I hit 75, I can easily see trimming down due to overlap and not getting played and going from there.
I try to have a game day/night 3 times in a month currently and eventually every week if possible.
Note, I added a slight touch to the rating system that has not been implemented as of yet even though the description is there.
Games are currently rated as such:
x = Game quality.
y = Order in which I would acquire the game based on a certain size of blocks if starting out. Ex, if it is one of the first 10 I would buy, then it gets a 9.
z = How often I'm okay with playing the game on a repeated basis. Once a month might be a 3.
