---- Update (Nov 2015) ----

Due to the fact that my wife started to let me play computer games again (also got a new system that can handle modern games) and the fact that she is no longer interested in playing board games with me, I am now on a board game hiatus. It's been a fun 3 years. I guess when the honey moon period wears off my family are not board gamers in any shape or form.

It is really too bad that this hobby requires multiple people sitting down at the table at the same time with relatively the same interest in playing the game. What a shame. =(

---------------------------

Hey there,

Thanks for viewing my info! Please allow me to introduce myself.

This is my blog on BGG ---> Lessons I've picked up along the way about board gaming

Before I've stumble upon this wonderful hobby of ours, I've always been a PC gamer since I was 10 years old. I've played many games on the 486 that my dad got me and since then I've played PC games almost exclusively until now.

When my girlfriend (now wife) decided to move in with me in 2012, we had a little fight because all I did after work was to play my video games and ignore her. Since then I've curb a lot of my video gaming time and spent a lot more time with her.

However, without video games I was bored with watching TV shows with her every night after work. One day when we were browsing our local mall, we went into a store that sells brain development games for kids. Among those toys and puzzles I've spotted Forbidden Island on the shelf. That shiny tin box made me read the back of the box in detail and that was what brought me back to the world of tabletop gaming! I've played HeroQuest and Magic: The Gathering in high school but I was never hooked. I didn't buy Forbidden Island there because I wanted to know more about how the game plays. The end result was finding BGG and got addicted to board games!

One month after I've stumbled upon that store, it was almost Thanksgiving in the year of 2012 and I thought it was a good idea to buy a game and play with my family after the turkey dinner. The first game that I've bought was Dominion and I was immediately hooked. Not only did I snatch up all the expansions, but I've also quickly acquired a sizable collection. To this day, I've spent $1939 on board games and board game related items since November 2012.

I am using my Geek profile to keep track of my spending. I am trying to curb the urge of buying new board games by keeping my purchases recorded. When I want to buy something, I will take a look at my profile first and see how much I've spent on this hobby already. After a year into this hobby I've found out that by keeping my spending recorded in my profile does not stop me from buying board games. However, it does curb my urge to buy new games. I'd say it is working as intended, but not to my expectation.

In order to curb my urge to binge buying board games, I am trying to play every single one of my games enough times before I move onto something new. I've set a goal for myself that for each game that I own, I will log 1 play per $1 spent on said game. So far I only have 20 games that have met this "$1 for 1 play" goal! 20/52 games = 38.46%

Along with this challenge for myself to play my games, I do have a few rules for my board game purchases and they are:

1) The yearly budget is $200.

2) I can only buy games once a year around the end of the year. (Hopefully to catch a sale or two). The only exception to this rule is that if there is a sale on the games that are in my wishlist, I can buy them instantly.

3) Math trade shipping cost doesn't count toward the $200 budget. As long as I have something going out for the ones coming in, I am all clear to do it.

4) On special occasions, my fiancee will reward my good behavior and let me buy a game that I want without counting it toward the $200 budget. (Don't laugh!)

How much dust do I have on my games?
