I discovered the Euro board game market in late 1999 and haven't been able to stop playing (or collecting) them since. I was always interested in board games, party games, and "simplistic" war games (Axis and Allies, Shogun, Risk), but I had no idea about the variety of different games that were out there. Discovering these games has greatly expanded the breadth of my board gaming hobby, not to mention my dedication. I'd have to say that playing board games (of all types) is probably my preferred social activity (and almost definitely if it's raining!).
Upon moving to Nashville in 2004, I was lucky to hook up with the Game Central Station - a terrific bunch of gamers - and have had even more opportunity to get in some good games!

A word on my ratings, you find the following disclaimer on each game I've played since mid-July 2007:
"When rating games I focus on the "how likely I am to play this game again" part of the BGG description rating, as opposed to the "quality" part of the rating."
I find it easier to me to quantify my feeling for when I want to play this again as to how "good" I think the game is - I think almost all games are good to a large extent, but the question is how soon do I want to play it.
Also I rate children's games (at least games that I believe that young children are the primary target audience) slightly differently. I rate them based on my reaction if that is what a child brings to me to play, hence you'll see this disclaimer on those games:
"Note: I rate children's games as what I'd play with someone from the appropriate age group. So, for instance, an 8 would mean that if my toddler wants to play a game, I might suggest this and wouldn't try to talk him out of it if that's what he had in hand."
