New "professional bits":
I am the Director of Operations for Conquistador Games, the company behind Road to Enlightenment, The New Science, Tomorrow, and War Stories: Red Storm.
First, the "professional" bits:
I'm the Editor in Chief at www.gameshark.com
, a video and PC game website that does reviews, previews, interviews, etc. I've been a member of the videogame press since 1996 after graduating from Ohio State with a degree in English/Critical Theory. That's a fancy way of saying...we read lot of Shakespeare. I've written a book on videogames, written for magazines, worked as a freelancer... you name it.
I am also the co-founder of the blog No High Scores (www.nohighscores.com
), a site dedicated to video and boardgames.
I've been slowly adding more boardgame content to GameShark with some reviews, interviews, and op-ed pieces. I think there's an audience out there that needs tapped into who simply do not know that boardgames outside of the "classics" exists. I'm a firm believer that gamers are gamers and good game design will appeal to them.
I'm married to a staggeringly patient woman who not only puts up with my boy toys (from PC and Xbox 360 to a slew of board games) but who also is slowly turning into a serious board gamer herself. We have an amazing little girl, an 18 year old mutt, a 6 year old Chessie Retriever and live 20 minutes outside of Columbus on a nice 2.5 acre piece of old farm land.
So basically I work from home and write about games, manage a staff of game writers and live out where we can see the stars at night.
Life could be worse.
My gaming tastes run the gamut from Ameritrash classics like Arkham Horror to hardline Euros such as Shogun and RA even to dexterity games like PitchCar. I'm also a fan of wargames from the likes of Twilight Struggle, Hannibal, to the Great Battles of Alexander.
My board game collection continues to grow, as I am trying to play catch up because most of my gaming time is devoted to PC and videogames. But I'm catching up...slowly.
