I am a game addict since my second birthday with many shifts of interest in my life. Till i was fourteen, gaming was all about winning, beating my sister in the german version of I.Q. 2000
or striking my father in Chess
. For the most part we played card games on our regular family gaming evenings.
As i was beginning my puberty my, friends, lucky to find some as a geek i was then, mentioned they wanted to start a RPG group with a system called "Das schwarze Auge". I was hooked on it from the first game session, so there was no time for boardgames.
The next shift in my gaming scope, dated back to 1994 with me being fifteen, was originated by Magic: The Gathering
. Some boosters of "The Dark" and "Fallen Empires" found their way to my FLGS and additionaly to those many "Revised Edition" starters teared a hole in my wallet. So the next years i spent my money and free time at the gaming table playing as much magic as i could and made my appearance in some tourneys and the first year of the german "Bundesliga". Fortunately i got out and did get back some of my investment selling all my cards.
So there i was in 1999 the millennium near, in fear for boredom through destruction of my one year old PC by the 2k bug, i needed some analog fun, else than my regular RPG group. Because i was impressionable, my shoping list was influenced by the "Spiel des Jahres" jury. I got me Hoity Toity
, Liar's Dice
and El Grande
. Those were my personal first selfowned boardgames and they were/are great fun.
Now my collection is a little bit bigger, which brings my girlfriend to tears. I try to play regular and have two fixed gaming groups.
My wishlist is primarily to remember all the games i like to look at at the next Con or fair and then decide whether i need them, muhaaha, of course i "Need" them....
Good night, good fight!
