Since 1975, the Charles S. Roberts awards been given annually for excellence in the historical wargaming hobby. From 2000 on, the awards have been presented at the World Boardgaming Championships.

• Best Modern Era Boardgame (1987-present; aka Post-WWII Boardgame)
• Best Wargame Graphics (1976-present)
• Best DTP-Produced Boardgame (1999-present)
• Best Magazine-Published Boardgame (1999-present)
• Best Pre-20th Century Era Computer Wargame (1987-1988, 1991, 1997-present)
• Best 20th Century Era Computer Wargame (1987-1989, 1991, 1997-present)
• Best Game Review or Game Analysis (1987-present)
• Best Historical or Scenario Article (1987-present)
• Best Professional Wargame Magazine (1974-present)
• Best Amateur Wargame Magazine (1974-present)

Past categories:

• Best Professional Game (1974-1975)
• Best Amateur Game (1974-1975, 1978)
• Best Tactical Game (1976-1977)
• Best Strategic Game (1976-1977)
