I love practical special effects in movies and wanted photos in this project to exist in the real world and make people wonder how they were created. Each photo takes, on average, about 3 to 4 hours to complete, which doesn’t even include the time for concept and development!
This was a totally new experience for me. I used to make friendship bracelets at camp when I was young but have never stitched anything. Many bumps encountered along the way but I am happy with the way it turned out. Catan hex tile pattern was purchased on Etsy from Grated Expectations — the rest of the piece I designed on a grid.
Initial sketch of the idea in 2017 when I was thinking of putting the phrase on a shirt.
Math and counting — laying out the design on a grid.
Putting the grid design into Adobe Illustrator for final placement.
