Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

May List
from Worst to Best

Murder on the Cosmic Express:

No incentive to do anything in this game. I am not a social deduction fan, so maybe I just don't get it. The whole table was confused and no one knew why we would trade anything with anyone. Really not for me.

1/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Lightning Reaction:

Not bad enough to be in the bottom 5 games of all time but close. I don't like getting hurt in my games and this game is painful! What the heck! Never again.

1.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Secret Hitler:

Really not a game for me. I hate trying to lie and figure people out. This is not my type of game and I dislike the theme. I didn't want to play knowing all of that but was roped in. I won't play again though - at least until it gets a Harry Potter theme or something.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Atommix:

Pretty art, but doesn't have anything to do with the gameplay. Really just a game of matching symbols. Different variations to play, but I just didn't get it. Not a card game for me.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

D6 Shooter:

With any push-your-luck game, I do very poorly. This game, I did particularly bad, and the game went on forever. I was bored after the first 10 minutes. Should be a faster game, and then I might enjoy it. #notforme

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Catan Dice Game:

Just doesn't hold up after all these years. Perhaps had I tried this roll n write first I would love it, however with so many options this just fails in comparison. #bored.

4.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Glisse Glace:

Super cute, but not really fun. Rules need more clarification. Should be a simple dexterity game, but I am still confused on scoring. Anyway, it was fine.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Men At Work:

Didn't play this until now since I didn't think I would love it. I was right, it was fine though. Too difficult to get awards in this game. Construction site kept falling over. I would just rather play Junk Art.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dust in the Wings:

Perhaps too simple. Doesn't seem like much variation from game to game. Not sure it will hold my interest after a few plays. It does have cool butterfly pieces.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Destruct 3:

I love the look and quality of this game, which is why I wanted to play it. But the gameplay was just not that interesting and scoring is wonky. I was hoping for more. It was okay.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Bloom:

Very much like Bukiet, but with a few rules differences. These minor differences didn't help the game at all and I will incorporate the Bukiet rules into this one. There should be a penalty for having the most unsatisfied customers. Fairly light roll n write game and not that exciting to play.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cassiopeia:

For me, this was very middle-of-the-road. I could play or not play. Some mean attack cards, but you can take them out if you don't want to play with them. Not sure this cube pusher has enough going on to stand out in a crowded room.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Unlock! Tombstone Express:

Nothing much special about this Unlock game. I wasn't connected to it at all. I think this is definitely one of the weaker games in the series. One cool musical bit, but that was all.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Zoomaka:

Pretty colors. Lots of take that and moving parts. Perhaps too many actions when more animals are really needed. Would have been better as a drafting game. Was ok.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Go Gecko Go!:

Kinderspiel nominee. Comes down to luck of the dice, but has a cool moving-animals mechanic. Could play again, but it wasn't that exciting.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Finger Guns at High Noon:

With the right crowd, this game is a riot. After playing with a full table I felt we all had a great time. It lasted a bit too long and it wouldn't be one that I often pull out to play, but I would be happy to under the right circumstances.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

DungeonQuest (third edition):

More fun than it has rights to be. Still, I am not a fan of everyone dying. Perhaps too long for what it is unless you die in which case you can find another game to play.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Rebound:

Got a wicked cool wooden-board edition. Cute dex game, but I would always choose to play Crokinole over this one.

6/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Franchise:

Quick game that packs a punch. The end snuck up on me and it was a shock! Enjoyed the tight gameplay. Not sure I love it, but would play again for sure.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sheep Dog:

So super cute!! Bluffing game which I am terrible at. Still had fun and find the artwork adorable and the package cute! Happy to play.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Fabulantica:

Super cute pieces. Colorful and clever. I am terrible at remembering things, but I still had a good time with this. I would really want to play it again since the group wasn't feeling it.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Detective Club:

Weird scoring, but I love the concept of this game. I love Dixit-style artwork in games. It attracts me. I would definitely want to play it again!

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tal der Wikinger:

Wasn't expecting this to be a dexterity game. Was happy to find out it was! More strategy in this than expected! Had a great time playing.

6.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Honga:

More to this than meets the eye. Kids game, but not small kids. Could be a great family game. Resource management and points game. I had a good time with it.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Animale Tattica:

Super cute asymmetric climbing game. What's not to like? A few rules need to be clarified, but we made it work and I enjoyed it.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Gameception:

The game you play while playing other games. Some hilarious moments, but some cards are just easier than others! The Ninja cards seem like they would be hilarious if you made them work.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Festo!:

SO MANY COLORS!! Actually a really cute game. Lots of things to think about and plan for, but I had a fun time. I like the different events that will change it up game to game.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Gridopolis Games:

3D abstract game(s) that reminded me a lot of Chinese Checkers but on a multi-level playing field. I look forward to trying this more.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kitten Klash:

2 player speed game. Had a great time playing it a bunch. I am always up for a speed pattern game and this is a perfect-size game. Would play anytime.

7/10 After 6 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cover Your Kingdom:

Clever take on Cover Your Assets. You are in control of 2 stacks of cards and there are action cards to play. Easy to pick up and play, and one that I can bring to family gatherings. Enjoyable all around with colorful artwork.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Fruit Friends:

Cute set collecton game with an "I split/you choose" mechanic. It's interesting to see how the selection will turn out. Small Japanese game that I could play anytime.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Color Brain: Disney Edition:

This was so much harder than I thought it would be! I love a good Disney challenge and this was awesome! Could play this any time. But I wonder if it would get stale after going through the deck once.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Corinth:

This is essentially Yspahan: The Roll n Write Game, where you roll a common pool of dice and collect a bonus for your sheet. Different paths to take, but I am curious about the staying power. For now I am happy to play it!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Bugs on Rugs:

Clever drafting and set collection game. I like that the leftover card will have an immediate effect on the players. Really makes you think about your choices if you are making that action happen. Cute and I hate bugs!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tasty Humans:

Nice tile placement game. Difficult choice of cards to draft each turn, which makes for clever play. Fairly abstract, but adorble theme and art. Enjoyed it so far!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Artline:

Love the pieces of art and abstract gameplay. You have to get creative with clues and common features. Really enjoyed my play of this.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Crusaders:

Packed full-hour gameplay. I enjoyed how much thinking I had to do in this game. I very much look forward to many more plays to see how it holds up over time. Solid game that really needs the color Red as a player choice (for me!).

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Blossoms:

Cute push-your-luck game. Love the art and the fast play time. I could play it anytime (and will lose each time!).

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Shop 'N Time:

This was a surprise. You can find it super cheap, which is usually a sign of a weaker title. But I have to say that this was amazingly fun. Price-Is-Right type game and tons of fun. I have NO idea what items cost in 1978 or 1954 or even 2010! Awesome companion app that goes along with it.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Zoo-ography:

A lot of interesting mechanics here. I like the tile placement and the different common goals. Will definitely want to play this one again!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Snail Sprint!:

HABA always has amazing components. #highstandards This super cute racing game does not let me down! I could easily play it anytime and have a good time. Every game needs some magnetic snails.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

World Shapers:

Cool drafting game that takes a play to figure out. I will play TOTALLY different next time, and I look forward to it. Love the artwork and the different card abilities.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dice Hospital:

Hate hospital themed games, but this has dice drafting so I had to play it. There is an interesting pull of which dice to take and which cool advancements to take. Had a great time playing this one and will look to play it again in the future.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Inuit: The Snow Folk:

Love the art and the engine building. After one play I am definitely interested in playing more and adding in the extra cards for variety. Still unsure of a good strategy but wanting to play more and find out!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Copenhagen:

Pleasantly surprised by this one! Reminded me a bit of Ticket to Ride with the set collections. There is an abstract element to it, but it is easy to figure out. Very quick gameplay, almost too quick.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Comanauts:

Pretty awesome. It is quite an adventure and you don't want to screw up. Seems a bit long per chapter, but I definitely want to get this game and play out the campaign.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Mummy's Mask – Base Set:

Better than I was expecting. Interesting use of cards. Happy to have started with this Mummy set since I like the theme a lot more. Interested to see where it leads.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Match Me!: What color is this?:

Love it! Super-challenging cooperative party-type game. Everyone tries to match colors based on a clue given by the cluegiver. So clever and difficult. Lots of fun!

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Bohnanza: The Duel:

This was awesome. I liked it a LOT more than Bohnanza. Super tough choices to make and a clever 'gifting' system. I never wanted to offer ANYTHING to my opponent but I was forced to! Brilliant!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aeon's End:

With no surprise, I love this game. I can't say it is better than Legacy, but I am really enjoying it. Finding it challenging to beat, too! Can't seem to get enough!

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Game of the Month is CO2: Second Chance:

A true winner. I enjoyed CO2 but always felt it should be a co-op as the semi-cooperative nature of the game didn't work well for me. This game truly shines now and I really enjoy it! So super difficult to win this game but I will keep playing until I do! Loving it.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Aeon's End: Accessory Pack:

Not entirely necessary, but are any accessories really necessary? Love having enough cards to separate all my different mages' starting decks. Love all of the dividers and most of all love the red dice for counters. Worth the pack if you love the game as I do!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Mystic Vale: Conclave:

Well, this is an expansion not to miss if you start collecting Mystic Vale expansions! A perfect box for all the stuffs! Quite enjoy the additions too! I won't play with 6 players, but if you wanted to, you can! More Mystic Vale is better!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Mystic Vale: Mana Storm:

Mana Storm is great since it adds negative VPs! You can now lose VPs from Advancement cards and Vale cards you buy. Should have been added sooner! Loved the new relics too. Good stuff going on here!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Roll for the Galaxy: Rivalry:

LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE customizing dice! Cool modules and cool dice. Loved playing with the Orb module and very much look forward to trying out the Deal module soon.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

April List
from Worst to Best

MeM:

Maybe I don't like it since I am bad at it? It is colorful, I will give it that. Really just not an abstract that I enjoyed. I did enjoy when it was over.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pulp Detective:

Oh man, it is really hard to manipulate the dice in this game. Maybe I was playing wrong, though I don't think so, but I didn't manage to get any of the clues I needed. Seemed way too luck based and it was just generally not fun. Not a game for me.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Quick!Quick!Quick!:

Speed tile laying game. Too many rules, so short game play. Way too fiddly. This game needs a good developer and then I might revisit it. Not quick enough to have "quick" in the title 3 times.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Jagdfieber:

Simultaneous card selection. Rock Paper Scissors mechanic. Try to snatch up as many cards as you can for points. Cute art, but overall not a great game for me. Wouldn't want to play again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Captain Marvel: Secret Skrulls:

This is BANG! rethemed. I hadn't played Bang in a million years but everyone else was naming the cards that the new cards were mimicking from Bang. I am not one for player elimination so this game wasn't really a hit for me. I think if you like Bang, then you will enjoy this one!

3.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Vinci:

I am grateful for Vinci to help pave the way for the excellent games that Small World and History of the World are. This just so didn't work for me at all. I won't play this one again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Noctiluca:

Not that bad but not great. If you want to do well, you have to seriously AP. This game is just asking for players to AP. I have to frown on that. Not much game here and just not much fun. Kinda surprised and might have expected more.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Nessos:

Bluffing game. Reminded me of Cockroach Poker, but not as much fun. I would never choose to play this one over that one. It was fine.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Shadow Blocks:

Speed polyomino placing game. I like that there is a catch-up mechanic. Interesting puzzle for a while, but goes on too long and becomes less interesting as you play. I would rather play Ubongo 3D or something.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pearls:

Reallllllllllllllllllllly simple set collection game. A game I didn't mind at all, but it wasn't too deep. Could play again, but really not itching to. It was fun to beat Dan once.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Formula Dé Mini:

Really not into racing games at all. This was fast enough where it wasn't too tedious. I wish it were just 2 laps though. I will always choose Snow Tails over this and it gives me a similar feeling. I do like the rainbow dice. Not a game I want to play again though.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Disastles:

Perhaps too much destruction and fewer castles. Only played the one game but nearly everyone died. Hard to maintain connections if your castle is being destroyed. Quick enough filler though and I will have to check out the different ways to play. For me, it is okay.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Incubation:

Good for families and kids. I was drawn to the fabulous artwork. Went on longer than I might have liked for a set collection game. No real desire to play it again. Super cute though.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Elements:

2 player card game. Awesome production for a small boxed game. All in all, this was just unexciting and not fun. I can see how if you play a lot, it might be clever, but I just don't care to find out. Not for me.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dig Down Dwarf:

This edition had poor dice production - pips were falling out. Cool gems. The game was more interesting than I thought it would be, which is not saying a whole lot. Still not a game I would much like to return to. Not exciting, but could be fun if you have a few good rolls.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Tales of Ki-pataw:

This game wanted to be so much fun. Loved the back stories and art. Wanted to love it, but it was just kinda okay. Running around to complete my objectives. There are a few different ways to play the game, so it could be more fun another way. I would consider going back to try.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Scarlet Pimpernel:

This game is so very attractive. Beautiful colors! Didn't know the story well, still don't really. Doesn't make sense as a theme so much, but I almost wish it were a fully cooperative game. Right now I feel it is missing something special. Mostly just a cube pusher for me and not a game I will be asking to play in the future.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

X: Ganz schön knifflig!:

Roll n Write that reminds me of Can't Stop Express but not as fun. It was just okay for me. I could play again or not. Meh.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Potion:

Reimplements another game called POK but updates the scoring rules which really help to fix it. Push your luck bluffing game that has some cute pieces and a fun package. Harmless filler and I would be happy to play more.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Folding Space:

Still in prototype form, so there is room for some development to happen. Would want to play again in final form to see how much it changes. I am not a fan of how the folding boards work with the speed and majority mechanics. I wish the boards were implemented differently and featured more, or just not implemented at all.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Megaland:

It works. It can be a good family game. I like that it is in Target, and I wish I had a game like this growing up. Right now, it just doesn't work for me though. Maybe push your luck games like this aren't for me. I just will lose, always. I can't stop. It is a fault of my own and not a fault of the game.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Meander:

Not much to this game. Gotta puzzle out some patterns in a board and hope they work out when the time comes. It's cute and clever, but won't be hitting the table frequently.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sushi Roll:

Pretty cute dice drafting game. I definitely like this more than the card game, if only for the big chunky dice. Better with more people because you can see more dice and have more opportunities to steal dice away.

5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Herbaceous Sprouts:

I have to say I liked Herbaceous more. This was perfectly pleasant, but not terribly exciting. Love the production and artwork, but I will stick to Herbaceous.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Push It:

Simple dex game to try and be closest to the push it puck. Not much happening here, but can be a good restaurant game if you like that sort of thing. Harmless.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Würfelwurst:

Push your luck dice rolling game to get lots of points. Cute artwork and fun critters. Very simple but I can see it going on far too long with more than 2 people. It was fine.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sherlock Express:

Speed pattern/deduction game. The main problem is that people don't play this quickly enough. I think players should flip faster but it rarely happens that way. There is usually a long pause between the flips for people to try to calculate. More fun to go really fast! It was cute enough and I could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tiny Towns:

Great production and art. Gameplay for me was only okay. Kinda wish the resource you are given each turn was random or relied on some other mechanic. Or maybe if the buildings were ever-changing so that no 2 people can have the same board set up. It's hard to explain, but I am just not that into this game. I very much want to be.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

LAMA:

SO MANY RAINBOWS!! I wish I could give a game a ranking just on the bold rainbow colors. The gameplay was just not great for me. It was fine, don't get me wrong. There is nothing much to it. Simple filler card game and nothing to keep it getting played. Samey. BUT RAINBOWS!

5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Res Arcana:

This is one I should play again someday but with fewer people. For me, this just went on far too long and I couldn't get any combos working. It was a rough first play, but I want to give it another chance.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

KeyForge: Call of the Archons:

I really started off hating this one. By the end, it was warming up for me. I like that you can select only one faction each turn - that is probably the game's saving grace. Not really my type of game in general though.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Hintegers:

Interesting party game. I am just not smart enough for it though. I could play again no problem. If I gave the clue "watch" which number would you pick? Yah, no one will get it right, and this is why I am bad at this game.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Rolling Ranch:

Pretty simple Roll n Write game. You get to play with farm animals and you try to pen the same types of animals together. Different buildings and bonuses to aim for to keep it interesting from game to game. I felt it was a bit long though and I was generally uninterested by the end.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

Black Angel:

This is one to explore more. There is a lot that rides on how the table is playing the game. You will have a much different experience depending on what is happening among the players. Beautiful production, but can be difficult to find the combos and paths to victory. Not intuitive and will be difficult to teach.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Antler Island:

Love the stag figures. So cute! The gameplay is not that interesting, but the puns and humor that comes with the table of gamers is priceless. Not a game I will frequently find myself playing, but happy to play every once in a while. "Deer Goggles."

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

ArtSee:

Pretty game. I recall playing this in prototype form a few years ago. It has come a long way, and for the better. Lots of options on where to place cards and which cards to put, but still constricting enough. I had an enjoyable time playing but I am not sure it stands out amongst the rest.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Silver:

An updated take on Cabo. But Silver is a much better game with more control and more options. I think it falls into the Bezier line up very well. I will definitely play this one again.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Senators:

Oh man, this game is harsh. I really need to play it a few more times with the advanced support cards and see how I like it with those. For now, I don't mind it and I think this can be a pretty cool auction game. Worried that the rich might get richer though.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Patchwork Doodle:

I like filling in my board with polyominoes. It seems a bit samey after a while and I would like different objectives from game to game. It was okay.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Bukiet:

Oh, the pretty colors in this game. An easy Roll and Write where you roll dice and fill in your board. Nothing too deep, but I could play with the family. Doesn't stand out in a room of Roll n Writes, but I am happy to play it.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Filler:

Delicious little card game. It was a nice surprise and works very well with 2 players. Light drafting game to try and use your ingredients to get more cards for your hand which will help you get more cards. Interesting deck building game. Happy to play this one again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cover Your Assets:

Really cute card game with more than meets the eye. Timing is everything - when to strike and how to strike are critical. Lots of laughs with this one. I like it a lot and will play with the fam.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sherlock Holmes: Four Investigations:

Not my favorite in the choose your own adventure series of books, but still really clever. Enjoying the experience and I like that I can choose to be Holmes or Watson. That was clever.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Palm Island:

Neat little card game. We played 2 players as multiplayer solitaire and I thought it worked pretty well. Interested to see how the different modes will work. Sometimes difficult to get the cards to cooperate when you are holding them. Very enjoyable little game.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Silver & Gold:

Oh, this was the talk of the town for the week. I do like actually writing on the cards that you collect. Finally, a smart Roll n Write idea! Really enjoyed this one and will happily play it when requested. Might not stand out in time, but for now, I am enjoying it.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Oceans:

Solid gameplay. I liked this a lot more than I enjoyed Evolution. More control over the cards you are playing which helps you defend yourself. Highly interactive engine building game. Will love to play this game again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Amul:

Clever set collection and drafting game. You have to be tricky to prepare well for the big reveal at the end of the game. That final reveal is what will keep me going back for more. Really enjoyed my play.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Draftosaurus:

Oh my goodness so cute! I love drafting dinomeeples. I had to pick it up since it is so cute. I just need to add googly eyes. I will play this anytime since it is so quick and so colorful.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dungeon Academy:

Speed game where you use the patterns on the dice to gain powers and defeat the bad guys in a path. The more you kill, the more points you will get. Really clever speed puzzle game. I look forward to playing a bunch more.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Boldest:

Simultaneous card play, and I love that mechanic. Sort of programming your plays in this game at the same time. Hard to judge what people might do. Plays out fairly quickly though. Enjoyable play. I really am not attracted to the artwork at all, except my water buffalo friend. Would like more color in my game art.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

One Key:

This game is super cute. Libellud really delivers with their artwork every time. Does not disappoint. Cooperative gameplay and it is super challenging to convey meaning in images that have little to do with one another. Love the use of the app. A really clever game and I can't wait to play again.

7/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

HexRoller:

I love the puzzles of trying to make the connections and waiting for the perfect rolls to fill in your different regions. Never plays out the way you want it to. Clever Roll n Write and I am happy to have it.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dizzle:

Really great how they incorporate different levels to keep you playing. The variety is nice and will make me want to own this. I am terrible at it since I always push my luck too much and it never works out. Keeps it interesting though.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write:

Enjoyed the few plays I had of this. I have to say I am more interested in the campaign mode to try all the different buildings and see how they work in different plays. Basic play might get static after a while, but there is a lot of potential with this one.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Captive:

Ohh this is an exciting book. You are in for an adventure this time. I had to pause in the middle, but I couldn't wait to get back to it and save my daughter! This one is a true maze. Very cool!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Second Chance:

I love the tough choices on which pieces to draw. With colorful markers, this game will be awesome! Happy to play this any time.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Auf falscher Fährte:

This game is such a delight. I really like not knowing what will happen and I play every trick in fear. This is a card game for me. Really loved it.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ohanami:

I took to this game immediately and played it a bunch. Love playing out the cards and trying to find the perfect time to switch over to extreme plays. Really nice filler game and will definitely be adding to the collection.

7.5/10 After 3 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Escape Plan:

Such a big game and amazing production, and yet I still think it is Lacerda's easiest-to-play game. Streamlined and easy to understand (compared to Lisboa). I had a great time and this theme is super cool. I very much look forward to my next play.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Marco Polo 2:

Not on BGG yet, and HiG hasn't decided whether to make this an expansion or standalone game. Either way, I have to have it. Loved playing the new take on Marco Polo. It is so exciting to see more content for this game and I can't wait to see the final production.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North:

Unique player decks make this game awesome. Different strategies to accomplish similar things. Loved playing this head-to-head and figuring out what might work best for my faction. Looking forward to the finished product.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Boomerang:

Really excellent card drafting/Roll n Write game. Two of my favorite mechanics and it didn't disappoint. Will have to add this one to the collection! Really stood out among the many in the Roll n Write genre this month.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cartographers: A Roll Player Tale:

LOVED this one. Creating a map and trying to complete goals. Really creative Roll n Write and one I will always want to play. Very excited for more plays of this one.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Subtext:

Will no doubt be the best party game of the year. I love this game! I generally like party games, but this one really makes you think outside the box. Dixit meets Pictionary! You totally need the right crowd though.

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Game That Shall Not Be Named:

Terribly sad I can't talk about this game, but just know that I LOVE IT! It will hopefully hit stores this year. IT'S AMAZINGGG FUN! There are some dice... and more dice! So many dice!

8.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

No pic!

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Die Tavernen im Tiefen Thal:

I love drafting dice, and I love deck building. All of that is used so well in this game. Confusing rules, but once you get through them, it is a blast. I very much look forward to adding this to the collection!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Hadara:

Loved this game. Quick and meaningful choices. Wonderful engine building and easily a highlight for the month, if not the year. Want to play this all the time. Very much look forward to wearing my copy out.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Game of the Month: Twice As Clever!!

Twice as Clever and Twice as Better. Love this game. Possibly my favorite Roll n Write. Highly addictive app and so much to think about in a short playtime. IMO way better than Ganz.

9/10 After 5 in-person plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Mystic Vale: Vale of the Wild:

Leader cards and more advancement cards and new vale cards. So much added. The coolest feature is the leader cards though. One will be added to your starting hand and will provide a unique ability for you. Super cool!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Underwater Cities: Expansion:

More cards, more boards, more awesome. A must have.

9/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Teotihuacan: Late Preclassic Period:

UM! SO GREAT! Pretty sure that covers it. Amazing game and amazing expansion. So much amazingness! Like the base game? Great - this is an insta-buy expansion.

9.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Tally

January: 12
February: 13
March: 21

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

March List
from Worst to Best

GemPacked Cards:

I have been wanting to play this game for far too long. It is easily one of the cutest games out there. For me, there weren't many meaningful choices and it was just a slog getting through the game. Bored to tears. Probably better for small children.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Andromeda:

Interesting push your luck element in this game. All in all not really my type of game with area control and a forced trading mechanic. Perhaps better with fewer players. Not really high on the play again list.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Gunkimono:

Dated. I was just bored playing it. Nothing engaging keeping me interested. Pull away leader/s and no catch up mechanic. Not really sure I have to return to try this again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Bears and the Bees:

Cute abstract family style game. Easy to play, but perhaps not enough control for honeycomb placements. Sort of luck dependent on what cards you draw and the combos you might be able to create. I would try again, but might just not be the game for me.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Robotech: Ace Pilot:

Definitely better with fewer people. Felt too long with 4. This game wants to be a better puzzle than it turns out to be. I think I either need more dice rolling or more puzzle. There isn't enough of either. It is fine.

5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Argoat:

Love the art! Exploration with some player negotiating. I am just not a fan of negotiating, and would rather have every man for himself. That mechanic brought it down for me a bit. I am also just not a fan of race-to-the-finish games. It was a miss for me, but I am sure if you like those mechanics you will find it more interesting.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kodama Duo:

This game has been updated from the original. I like it better with the duel aspect to it. The card mechanic is nice. I want to love this more than I do, so I will give it a few more plays.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Haven:

Iconic art. A 1v1 game in a tug-of-war type mechanic. This is one of the better games in the genre. I don't particularly like it though. This game worked and I could easily play it again. Just stunning to look at.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pralaya:

Love the Anime style art. This is a set collection and push-your-luck game. Interesting hate-drafting mechanic, but you are also trying to get the best sets for yourself. Its cute.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trollfjord:

You get to whack a wooden tower with a wooden gavel. What more can you ask for? It is an awesome gimmick. Certainly makes the game fun, but not sure how much staying power it has. I could easily play it again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper:

Interesting take on Rummy. I need another few plays, but I enjoy it well enough to give it that chance. Pretty colors! I still don't think I understand some of the rules though. laugh It was late.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

King of the Dice:

Cute push-your-luck dice game. Yahtzee-style dice rolling to try and claim cards for points. Love the artwork and am generally a fan of HABA games. Easy for the fam.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Zocken:

An older title but still fun! This is a betting game where players to try and roll the dice in a particular order. I think it will be fun for holiday get-togethers. Not sure it will be requested ever, but I will happily play it. Rainbow dice!

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kingdom Rush: Rift in Time:

Campaign-style tower defense game. This is a cooperative game where all players are trying to fight off the goblins and wolves. Interested to see where the campaign takes me.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Grifters: Nexus:

If you like Grifters then this can be an expansion for it. It also works as a stand-alone game. There is a lot of take-that in this game, but it is quick enough where it doesn't bother me. I enjoy playing it.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Canasta Caliente:

It had been far too long since I played Canasta. I really enjoyed the extra card added in Caliente. Traditional partnership games like this are fun. I always like card games!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Miraris:

Quick little game which is super cute. I think it works as a great filler and plays up to 6. I love the simultaneous card selection mechanic. I would totally play this anytime. Quite enjoyable.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tears of a Goddess:

Choose-your-own-adventure type book with life and damage attached. This was super hard and super exciting. I had a great time playing this one and I very much look forward to the others in the series of books.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Onirim:

Really clever solo game that is quite a challenge. So colorful! It is even harder as a 2-player game. Excited to play more with the various expansions.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Hero Realms: The Ruin of Thandar Campaign Deck:

I love Star Realms and Hero Realms. This fits right in there. You get to have your own character and level them up with cooler skills and items. Really fun to work through a campaign. Would definitely recommend it.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

MY GAME OF THE MONTH IS: Aeon's End: Legacy

Really great! Can't seem to get enough. I haven't played any other version of Aeon's End so I can't compare. Love opening the new chapters and choosing all of the awesome upgrades and additions for the next chapter. So much fun and I am loving it.

9/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Villainous: Wicked to the Core:

New characters to mix in or to play as a stand-alone game. If you are a fan of Villainous, this will be an easy no-brainer for you.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Welcome To...: Doomsday Thematic Neighborhood:

New Welcome To board! Love the extra objectives of saving lives. Couple new city plans which are cool. I like mixing it up a bit. Great addition.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Small World: Realms:

Super awesome expansion for Small World! Lots of boards to mix and match and make a unique world every time. Loved it and would totally recommend it if you enjoy Small World.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Chronicles of Crime: Noir:

This expansion is awesome. Gives you the same feeling of CoC but you have new abilities since you are a detective and not necessarily playing on the side of the law. Super challenging and fun to figure out.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Tally

January: 12
February: 13
March: 21

Total new to me games for the year: 46!

Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

February List
from Worst to Best

ROLL for Your Life, Candyman!:

I am not really into speed rolling dice games. This didn't change my mind on the subject. The components are super cute, but the game just didn't do anything for me. Could be good for kids and families to enjoy though.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cabo:

Luck-driven card game. You have a few choices, and you simply have to hope for the best! The artwork is amazingly cute and I hope they create more games with these characters and world. All in all a filler game that didn't really grab me.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Memo Street:

Memory meets Yahtzee. Very very simple design. Not terribly exciting and not one I want to play all the time. It was fine.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Lisboa:

Was very hesitant on playing this game since I hadn't been too fond of other titles from Lacerda. There is far too much going on in this game for me to appreciate it. Too many moving parts. I didn't hate it, but I won't ever choose to play it. All in all, not for me.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ludus Senatus:

This actually reminded me a bit of Cabo. Hidden cards that you are trying to manipulate. This was faster, therefore, I liked it more. Very fast, but not terribly exciting. Could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

On Tour:

Roll n write game. Kind of hard to plan, and can easily be screwed over. Really enjoyed at the beginning, but by the end was kind of over it. Nice production and a game I could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Intrigue:

Mean game. It is pretty entertaining though. I enjoyed it and would definitely like to play again. Really hard to gauge the situations in this game. Fun to see the final outcome.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

DinoGenics:

Solid gameplay. One card really ticked me off which set an overall gloom for me. Would play again with fewer people, but if I had to pick a dino game, it would be Dinosaur Island.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Eye My Favorite Things:

Cute party type game with personal information. You are providing top 5 lists and people have to try and win tricks based on what they think they know about you. It is silly and fun. I had a good time playing and will definitely play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Vadoran Gardens:

Super cute card laying game. Totally drawn to the box art. I like card placement games with pattern building. A quick and clever game in the realm of Honshu. Would happily play this for a filler game. Can feel a little restrictive though.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ab in die Tonne:

I am always up for a good dexterity game. This is fun times and plays in 15 minutes. The pieces never seem to slide in the correct direction no matter what! Lots of fun!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Obsession:

Love the theme. Some interesting game mechanics and hand management. I am not really a fan of the take-that element to the game, but I enjoy everything else that is happening. Definitely a game to revisit.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

MY GAME OF THE MONTH IS: Wingspan

Love the theme and production of this game. So many cards, and I really like the different combos and strategies to go for. I'm constantly planning in this game, and it gives me a feeling of accomplishment at the end. I enjoy it.

7.5/10 After several plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Celestia: A Little Help:

Cute addition to the game. More cards that will help the active player and give player abilities. Definitely a great choice if you love the base game.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Welcome To...: Halloween Thematic Neighborhood:

Perfect game to put me in the mood for Halloween. Hahah just enough addition to keep it easy to understand for new players. Really love the change up in this expansion board.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Lords of Vegas: UP!:

Really great expansion. I am not sure I like playing with 5 players, but it is a good option to have either way. I certainly like building upwards. Makes it easier to get those otherwise difficult-to-gain points.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dinosaur Island: Totally Liquid:

So much content added to an already awesome game. I might recommend not adding it all in at once, but a few here and there. I really enjoyed this expansion. I do have a lot of questions for Jon Gilmour though. I look forward to playing again soon!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Tally

January: 12
February: 13

Total new to me games for the year: 25!

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Last year I started keeping tabs on the movies I was watching. This year I am also adding in the completed series I watch! I love TV too...

Thanks for following along! I hope you have an amazing 2019.

Happy Gaming!!!

January List
from Worst to Best

Valentina: The Game – Tutto Crepax Vol. 1:

Okay, I knew this game would be bad, but I still wanted to try it out since I owned it. Pretty game, but really not much fun at all. Speed memory puzzle game. Bad but not burn worthy.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

Niagara:

Cool waterfall gimmick which caught my interest to begin with. Needs some house rules to be more likable in my book. Can be really mean, and it might just never end! Ran on far too long for my taste.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Waterworks:

Crusty old card placement game. Not horrible but it was so old I felt dirty playing it. Can be mean and take-that. Luck of the draw. Not exciting at all and won't ever be a choice in the future for me.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Age of Civilization:

A bit under developed. Cool ideas and easy to learn light civ game. I like the limited actions you can take in the game and the short playtime.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Madorino Karuta VR:

Cute use of VR. I like having to try and describe a room. I feel like the game could get old after a few plays but I would be fine playing anytime. It plays a bunch of people and can be a good filler for the start of the day.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Adlung Land:

Card laying game to build an amusement park. I like how Adlung Games incorporated all of their titles into this game, it is clever. Harmless game and one I could easily play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

Ice Cream:

We need more games about ice cream so this was a welcomed theme in my book. Any reason to eat more ice cream is a good one. Cute set creation game to try and score ice cream points. Happy to play.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

La Stanza:

Played in nearly finished prototype form. Enjoyable planning game. You have to work out the best moves and how to accomplish getting the masterpieces made. Stressful and tight. Cool game.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

Architects of the West Kingdom:

Clever worker placement game. Feels similar in design to the North Sea series, but different enough to be interesting. Worth checking out if you like Euro games.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

London (second edition):

This game is almost brutal in a good kinda way. I played the 1st edition and remember it being more favorable than I have it rated (6). I quite enjoyed the play I had for this one and would most certainly like to return to it. Very much enjoyed my play.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

Pirate Tricks:

Simple to learn trick-taking game with variable rules that change up from hand to hand. Plays out super quick and lots of fun choices. A very enjoyable game. Maybe too much public information to try and keep track of. Still, one I want to play more of.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

MY GAME OF THE MONTH IS: 5x5 City:

More awesomeness from Okazu Brand. Tile placement game with some pattern building. Easy to teach and play and right up my alley. Will want to own this one.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)
