The Dutch Designer Niels Pieterse created surprisingly good family game in a small box.

Walking through the Italian Dolomite mountains you can see special Flowers, Animals, Waterfalls, Canyons and Mountain Tops. The player who visits the most of these and builds their Rifugios (Italian for 'mountain cabin') in strategic spots, is most likely to win the game.

In Rifugio you place hexagonal tiles every turn with just a few simple rules (meadows next to forest, next to rocky areas, which in turn are the only areas allowed to have mountain tops. No rock next to meadows, and no mountain tops next to forest or meadows. A few special tiles have to match their sides exactly.

Game Presentation

Box & Game

Close Up

With your pawn (a backpacking tourist) you move around the placed tiles, visiting those that have special items printed on them (animals, flowers, waterfalls, etc.), and avoiding those with bears. By visiting special places, you collect a victory points card (usually 2 points) for that special place (for a bear how ever, you get -3 points). There are three items in each category, and collecting the full set earns you a bonus of 5 points.

Each turn you have two free actions available, move, or place a Rifugio (a mountain cabin). Each time an opponent visits a tile with your Rifugio, you get a card with 2 victory points, but they to rest (which is getting a card with an extra action they can use at any time convenient).

Game ends when all tiles have been placed, and whoever gathered the most points in collecting those cards wins.

A Small Photo impression of Qwixx Duel

Qwixx: Das Duell is a stand alone two player version of Qwixx.

As in Qwixx, players roll colored dice and match them up to fill out a score sheet to maximize how many points they will score at the end of the game. However in this game, rolls can only be used by the active player, but the players will share the same scoreboard and mark their progression with stones of their player color.

Box & Components

Close Up

Stones can in some cases be "bumped" out by the other player, while other stones are "locked" in permanently. As so, Qwixx: Das Duell features a higher level of player interaction than Qwixx.

At the end of the game, players sum up their scores based on the placement of their stones. The player with the most points is the winner.

Photo impression of Imhotep new buildings in Egypt with wooden stones

In Imhotep, the players become builders in the old Egypt who want to emulate the first and best-known architect there, namely Imhotep.

Over six rounds, they move wooden stones by boat to create five seminal monuments, and on a turn, a player chooses one of four actions: Procure new stones, load stones on a boat, bring a boat to a monument, or play an action card. While this sounds easy, naturally the other players constantly thwart your building plans by carrying out plans of their own. Only those with the best timing — and the stones to back up their plans — will prove to be Egypt's best builder.

Simply and smooth design with an easy game play.
Different ways of scoring you points with nice components.
A short playtime with enough depth in the game.
This blends a unique bunch of mechanics such as outguessing your opponents
with resource management, puzzles with good tactics and a little long term strategy.
We had a lot of fun with this small brain burner that I' still enjoy.

Travel to the past with Yinthe and Jairo, two stone age children, to rediscover how the first humans settled the world around them.

In My First Stone Age, a children's version of the Stone Age family game, the players collect goods and build their own settlement.

My first impression is .... It Rocks! It has elements of his older brothers and is very easy to learn for kids. Great wooden components, good mechanics as memory, collecting the right goods and planning your moves for the right goods.

The awards are telling the success of this great and fun family game for the youngsters

Photo impression of Hellas from Designer Stefan Dorra

Under the Greece sun with blue bays and white marble a setting for a fine holiday, swimming, architecture, wine and good food and some boardgames.

Stefan Dorra is bringing us back to 480BC. It’s the rise of classic Greek civilization. After the overwhelming victory of Xerxes’ army at Thermopylae the Greek return to their country and continue the hard work at the islands. The building and development of large cities is the next step into a new era.

Box Presentation - Hellas

Found settlements on a Greek island and let them grow into large cities. Build statues in honour of the Gods or finish one of the various temples on the island.

All this work needs a lot of marble, which can be found in the many quarries.

Houses next to a quarry can mine marble, but some quarries produce more marble than others.

Growing Cities at the Island

The temple provides extra bonus at the end of the game

White Goblin Games will produce the Multi Language production

The illustrations of Dennis Lohausen and the beautiful wooden components make the game really appealing at the table.

I was lucky with some friends and others to play the first produced games fresh from the factory

A home my son get really into the game

Jairo is making his move

Each round players choose an action in the display. When choosing to build a house, palace or square on the island all other can perform that action too. Deciding to mine marmer (to get more money) will also help other players, because they'll earn money too through their houses next to mines. Building pillars in temples or raising a statue are the only type of actions you'll perform by yourself, but at the end of the game all players might score points because of your work.

Strategically build your settlements on the island to gain the most profit from quarries. Timing is crucial: most of your chosen actions can also be immediately performed by all other players. Think ahead to outsmart your opponents and score the most points with your cities.

Overview at the end of the game

Hellas is a middle weight worker-placement with enough tactics to hold the tension. It plays smooth and fast. The rules a clear and easy to learn for family and gamers. My kids really liked the game and discovered during the games more tactics and strategies.

Stefan Dorra, thanks to bringing up this sunny and fresh game at the table!

Game Overview

In Kheops, players are rival architects taking part in the building of the great pyramid. In turn, player place tiles (rooms and corridors) and pawns (workers, priests, mummy, and even pharaoh) on the pyramid building site. Of course, some tiles have special features, like sarcophagi or curses. There are even rumors of rotating corridors and secret networks.

A small impression of Biblios

Biblios - You are an abbot of a medieval monastery competing with other abbots to amass the greatest library of sacred books. To do so, you need to have both the workers and resources to run a well-functioning scriptorium. To acquire workers and resources, you use a limited supply of donated gold. In addition, you must be on good terms with the powerful bishop, who can help you in your quest.

I like to story walking around in an old monastery's library finding interesting stories and watching old drawings from the past.
