The sloooow steady progress continues...

The latest and greatest version of the rules is being refined.

Lots of rules have tightened up and the Quick Start Rules should be available soon.

A Bricks & Minifigs franchise location just opened about a mile away from my house and I've reached out to the owner about my project, so I think I'll have a place to play-test with a large group.

Stay tuned!

I've been working on some new items for the Arena prototype.

Obstacles block movement and may block ranged attacks.

Hazards block movement and can attack characters. Can not be destroyed.

Dangers can attack characters and can be destroyed.

Quick aside...

As I was thinking about a version of Minifig Meleee I could put on LEGO Ideas as a way to bring in more potential followers, I starting thinking about the combat mechanic and if there was an easy, more "accessible" version I could use.

Of course, Rock-Paper-Scissors aka Roshambo came to mind and quickly after that, its "big brother": rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kov2G0GouBw ).

Here's a quick take at a resolution diagram for the basic stats (minus the life stat) used in Minifig Melee:

Not sure if I would actually want to use this in the main game, or just use it in a free/lite/alternate version.

We'll see...

I was playing around with other potential themes and came up with a zombie/post-apoc idea:

This would need to add rules on guns, explosions, acid, etc, etc... but I think it would be a lot of fun.

I created a Work In Progress thread on BBG to link back here..

[WIP] Minifg Melee - miniature skirmish board game

Several folks have pointed out concerns about the use of the term "minifig". I'm not too worried about it as there seems to be a precedent of other companies using the term.

Quote:

I guess having the name "minifig" in the title of the game will put me in more of a bullseye.

I did more google research and found other non-game companies using the term:

http://minifigs.me/ makes custom minifigs.
http://minifigworld.com/ sells custom parts for minifigs and even has a game on BBG: minifig World: BATTLELINES
http://www.minifiglabs.com/ is another custom minifig store.

I like their disclaimer:

Getting Kind of Dicey

The progression of the game has been slow but steady, but no element of the game has gone through as much change as the use of the dice.

One consistent goal I've had is to make use of the official LEGO dice and to leverage the customizable nature of them.

Very early on, I started out by using 1x1's on the dice, but that quickly became too fiddly.

So then I moved to 1x2's thinking I'd found the solution, but still it turned out to not work the way I wanted.

So now I'm down to 2x2 faces on the dice.

The final implementation has 3 dice with the 6 basic colors distributed in such a way that each color appears on two dice. Each dice also has a black (failure) and white (wildcard success) side.

Play testing so far indicates this is the least fiddly without sacrificing much.

Factions = Sets

An old post speculated on how to divide minifigs into factions.

Here's a recent update of the idea with minifigs that would likely be stat-ed as part of the sets.

Different sets will contain different obstacles, dangers, hazards, items, monsters, and heroes...
