Games, games and more games!
We were 6, so split into two tables for most of the evening. We started with a 3 player The City, our latest quick filler, then immediately played another 3 player game of it, introducing it to James while Sami put Robert to bed. Then we played King of Tokyo 4 player while waiting for Marion and Richard to arrive. Then we had to decide our next game – Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization was suggested for one table, as usual, and pretty much everyone indicated they were happy to play it. Colin suggested Phoenicia for the other table, which was pretty unpopular, and meant there were four definite for Through the Ages, so he switched to Urban Sprawl, a new MathTrade acquisition, and I joined him and Sami and we took that one downstairs to try. It’s a very long game – took us 3 hours (slightly longer than the Through the Ages upstairs) – but really has the feel of building up a city. The event cards felt like the ones in Vegas Showdown – could be slightly swingy, but once you know them, you can predict to some degree what sort of things they’ll be – to us we didn’t have a clue, so what worked and didn’t was all very random, and the “1VP and 1 coin for being the Media player” started to become a huge joke by the end! Lots of fun though, and I’ll have a bit more idea about things next time!

We finished with a 6 player Ave Caesar, two laps, neither of which I finished – once crashing and burning, and the other running out of energy just before the finish line – grr!!! Colin was the winner almost by default, as the only one to complete both races!
